Big Sur compatible cloning software?

Super Duper cloning software currently does not have an update/fix to align with Big Sur to enable hard drive backups. With no indication of resolution forthcoming, has anyone found an alternative that has a bootable function and the option for selective choice of files to backup for MACs?

I believe Carbon Copy Cloner is compatible.

What a coincidence. I just ran into this issue as well and as wjones states, Carbon Copy Cloner has gotten around the issue for now at least. It's a result of Apple's security methods and APPEARs as though Apple will have to make some changes to their system for bootable cloning as we know it may longer be possible. That said, I was able to make a backup of the Data portion of my drive with Carbon Copy Cloner. It's a bit of a pain but it was successful.

As stated, I believe CCC works indeed, but only for Intel based and not for the new M1 machines. I ran into this last week.

Thanks, wjones8637. It Seems Apple has added privacy restrictions that has reduced the number of compliant developers since Big Sur and recent updates. Carbon Copy will be on my list to research.

Super Duper also has a workaround to allow you to back up the data on your drive, but I don’t think anyone has found a way to make a bootable back up on Big Sur.

Rab-Eye, good to have options while we hold out hope for the full package.

Use Time Machine for now.

With the new T2 security chip on the M1 machines, there is no way right now to do boot from an external drive. CCC works on Big Sur (though there are some listed issues for some. It says it runs on the M1 machines.

SuperDuper doesn’t but seems to have a workaround but I can't find anything specific to say it runs on the M1 chipset.

Both CCC and SuperDuper are clone programs. I am a big believer in the 123 system of protective backups. My first line is Time Machine, which is a full backup of your machine other than the OS. My second line is CCC backing up both my root drive and external data drive. While I would love it to be bootable that really isn't an issue because in the case where my computer dies my new computer will already come with the os installed. The third is backblaze which is a cloud backup of all of my data.
