In 2011 I drove from Dallas, Texas to Montreal, Quebec to undergo a cruise from there to Boston, Massachusetts. In Boston, a cousin took me on a tour of the city, one site being the sailboat U. S. Constitution. It was a beautiful day, and these are photos I took of the ship.

Just got up, now catching up on responses.

Doddy, Thank you very much. I’m glad you liked it.

DougS, thank you, too! So happy you enjoyed it.

camera4, thank you for the great explanation. I do know that “Old Ironsides” was a very distinguished warship, and it was wonderful to be able to board her.

Eric, I appreciate the good definitions. I always thought that “USS” stood for United States Steamship, though.

yssirk123, Thanks for the nice comment! I’m so glad you liked them.

blacks2, nice to see you, too! Thanks for the 4 thumbs up! I’m happy you liked them.

rv8striker, thank you for coming and the approval. I’m pleased they invoked good memories.

Jay, I really appreciate your comment, and am happy you enjoyed them.

nobler, thanks for your nice comment. I’m happy that you and your mom had a nice tour. There was a Navy person on board when I visited Old Ironsides, and she gave a nice tour.

Jim, thank you very much. I’m pleased that my images invoked some nice memories. About the other ship? Yes, I do. In this picture it is identified as the USCG Barque Eagle (WTX 327) of New London, CTDSC_9622 by David Casteel, on Flickr

Moondoggie, thank you for coming. So glad you liked my photos!

Bridges, thank you a lot for the nice comments! I’m happy you liked them.

Earnest, good to see you! I’m pleased you liked my sett.

afsalvo, thanks for the approval! You’re welcome—I like to share.

Nikonbob, I appreciate your nice comments—I’m glad you enjoyed the photos. You’re welcome—I enjoy sharing with others.

rdgreenwood, I did not mean to demean Old Ironsides. I also enjoyed my tour of her.

Stash, thanks for the 3 thumbs up! I’m happy you liked them.

Chout, thanks for coming and your nice comments.

When I posted earlier about my nephew having his wife's commissioning aboard the ship, I meant to mention that I liked your photos better than the ones I took that day -- the ship looks much more impressive because the masts are fully assembled. They only put the top section of the masts on for special ceremonies or when the ship is going to sea. I guess the Captain ceremony doesn't qualify -- maybe if someone is getting their commission as an admiral! The shot of the Coast Gard ship is very nice also. Eric's (my nephew's) son graduated a couple of years ago from the Coast Guard Academy so is most likely familiar with that ship. I think they do a cruise with the cadets aboard it during their years at the academy. Needless to say, this is one nautical family!

It is worth note that not only is the Constitution a commissioned warship in the US Navy, it is the only currently commissioned warship to have fired upon and defeated an enemy vessel in battle.
I am greatly looking forward to getting to Boston to tour the Constitution once the Covid mess is settled.
Excellent photos.

Thank you very much, John! I hope you get to Boston soon. There is a lot more to see there than the ship.

Very good shots. Not a 'sailboat," though. She's a three-masted, heavy frigate of the United States Navy.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked the photos. Others have already corrected me about the "sailboat", though. Mea culpa.

Beautiful photos of a very storied frigate, David. Love the on-deck shots. I visited some 40 yrs. ago, but it's been through major renovation since then.

As a native Bostonian I enjoyed these very much. My brother a 25 year lifer in the Air Force actually had his retirement ceremony on this ship. Very cool. They whistle you on board prior to the ceremony. Didn’t know they could choose where to hold their retirement ceremony.

srfmhg, thank you very much. I'm glad you liked it.

John, thanks for coming and the nice comment. I enjoyed that outing with my cousin, who lives in nearby Lancaster.

ceallachain, that must have been awesome. I'm glad that you enjoyed my photos. (My USAF retirement was on Ramstein AB, Germany, my last duty station.)
