We've been through this before. Why give up 24MP resolution for 12MP resolution? That person should be paying you to take their 2008 camera off their hands. If hope this isn't a 'friend' since they're offering you the short end of the stick.

I heard from the angry photographer on I tube that pickels don't matter and a D700 has great reviews pixels don't matter the guy knows what he is talking about check out his web site and let me know what you think.

I've been to his web site many times for the entertainment value. I sometimes agree with what he says, sometimes not.

I tend to go along with what Paul says, if for no other reason than he doesn't have to repeat himself ad nauseam to get his point across. There is also the fact that Paul's opinions are pretty well respected around these parts.

I and others have already told you what we think, across multiple threads for this same question. If you were sure of this idea, you'd have a full frame camera already. There's nothing 'wrong' with a 13-year old camera, other than it's a step down from the camera you already own. If you want actionable advice: find how you're going to get 24MP of modern full frame resolution and find a used D610 or D750. Sell anything unrelated to this target full frame body. If you're convinced a full frame camera will make you a better photographer, then make that new camera a better camera, not a step down / backward.

I think you're getting rid of your D7100 and getting a D700. (Not sure what else you expect us to think.)

The Camera Decision says the Angry Photographer is wrong. The Internet wins!

Look...buying a used camera is like buying a used car. No matter how you slice it, you are buying something that someone else doesn't want any more. So Step 1 is to understand why that is.

As far as the pixel question goes, it is sometimes true and sometimes not. If you said you were going from a 24MP D7100 to a 21MP D500, I'd encourage you to jump on it (depending on the price) because the huge pot full of benefits you would be gaining would far exceed the insignificant reduction in pixel count.

But the drop from 24MP to 12MP is not insignificant. It's a big deal.

My suggestion is that you do some real study and research and forego opinion sites (including this one) for a while. Learn some basics so that you can gain some confidence in your own decisions. If you have to ask, it is probably questionable at the very least.

If it rocks your boat. Specific choice is yours, but broadly viewed it’s good gear with pretty low miles and usually a very affordable model. More affordable lately due to the exodus and migration. IOW great cheap fun ! Enjoy :-)

After reading it, the choice between 7100 and 700 is quite subjective, no huge differences or deal breakers. The buyer can safely choose on a whim. No major expense and no rocket science involved.

FWIW my whim leans to the 700. I’ve never used either of them.
