A little over 20 years ago a friend of mine had a website made for her business. It was bad. She asked me how she could make her own. I didn't know anything about it. As an exercise during the learning process I built a website. It was hosted on a free site.

The most used "web design" software was, believe it or not, notepad. After seeing this post I got wondering it the site still existed. To my surprise, it does. The host site has added a lot of advertising.

I'm not sure if the links still work. I hope everybody has a good laugh.

Back then ya got what ya paid for.
I never used a free site.

My primary web editor for the longest time was SpiderPad.
It barfed on my laptop and will no longer function.
Now I use Komodo.

Wow! your work is terrific Kimberley, I must say. Sadly I am only a mid-weight property photographer - I've studied the subject at some length and have clients now in the UK and Australia. Your comments are very nice, thank you - I generally shoot real estate interiors at around 16-20mm, exteriors are anything that works. I've tried other genres of photography and quickly realised that I'm rubbish at most other subjects. I love your work and your website too. Back to the drawing board for me.

Well your images look so proportional, just like if you were standing there! You definitely have perfected your niche! The website builder I use is Pixiset in case you want to know. They have a free version and it is extremely user friendly with free client galleries. If you ever want to, they have a store module to sell from. :)

Shutterfly provides a simple, easy to use site for sharing photos with family and friends. It's customizable and free. Here's my sample:

Thanks for your reply - I will get back to my site design - however there are about 30 images to view - use the scroll arrows. Maybe I should automate this bit. All points taken.

Oops, my bad. Didn't see the arrows. Guess I'm not too observant.

I like jAlbum. They have a large variety of skins and are used by many pros. They also provide hosting for your albums. "Responsive" design make things look good on cell phones as well as on PCs. Take a look at these skins: Story, Tiger, and ZigZag. jalbum.net.

My site, with links to multiple albums: bronord.com/pics - mostly using Tiger skin.

ZigZag example:

View both in portrait and landscape modes.

Just wondering if any of my fellow photographers have built a website - maybe to advertise your work or just to show your images online? I am interested in your designs if you don't mind sharing them here.

This is mine:

My website is built with SmugMug and hosted through GoDaddy. I have built it basically for my pleasure, not really to sell anything. The amazing thing is, I have sold photos through it. I travel extensively and have built the site to showcase my travels. Built as a travelog, There is a web page with a story featuring a few photos and the main photo at the top always opens into a gallery. I make it a point to caption every photo as accurately as possible and include the story behind it as well.

My site is https://www.dalerobertsphotography.com/

I wanted to thank all of you who contributed to my post - I am always grateful that you take the time to respond with helpful advice - I have a few points I'd like to make:

1. Thanks again for all of your advice
2. You have some great websites and even better images
3. I have work to do on my website AND my photography
4. Any real estate photographers out there willing to advise?

Thanks all again and keep up the good work

Before I built my website I shopped around. I wasn't at all enthusiastic about the prospect of paying someone $1000 to build one for me. I checked out Go-Daddy and a couple of others. I ultimately found Wix. Their basic package is free. Their premium package does have an affordable fee. I did design it myself without any experience in graphic design. And the feedback I got from friends, colleagues, and clients were very impressive. I'll give you my website address so you can see for yourself, paulspicts.com

Thanks for taking the time and effort to check out my website. I appreciate the complement and the information on copyrights. Enjoy the day!

Your site looks fine, a nice display of your work. However, it took me a minute to find where the images are displayed. Couldn't see the arrow right away. Sometimes having the menu actually helps.

This is my site that I built myself:

http://rightonphotography.com/

I upload my non-business related photography to the SmugMug and use their free template:

https://www.memoriesoftravels.com/. SmugMug allows subscribers to use their own domain name, so I got mine.

Some nice stuff. I tried opening events, and then the zombie folder, and none of the images there would show. MoMAQC worked fine. Maybe a bit of a glitch there to check into. (I'm using Brave browser on an iMac, iOS 11.2.3).
