If you are not aware of Don Ellis, here's a taste: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o98Qrc5Pj4&list=PLJa9-iROmUztJjICPS0gfHhMxIQzmXzNM&index=2

I went to this concert with my girlfriend whom I had met 7 weeks prior on a blind date. About two hours after the concert, she was my fiance' and a year later my wife. We will celebrate our 50th soon with 5 children and 13 grandchildren (so far). A magical evening to say the least.

Here's a link to the whole album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBDoyZ-9_ho&list=PLJa9-iROmUztJjICPS0gfHhMxIQzmXzNM

Thank you dancers. I wasn't going to let her get away; I'm a lucky man.

I first discovered Don Ellis with his 1967 album Electric Bath, which was groundbreaking in its use of electronics in big band jazz:

Thanks for commenting John. That's about the same time I discovered Don Ellis and I have the vinyl version of that album. Don Ellis was amazing. In the Fillmore performance, they played the full two hours and at one point spread the orchestra out into the auditorium and would do solos and one would fade out and the music would then be picked up by another who would then play for a bit and they "moved the music" around. Don played the whole time either with his trumpet or on drums or just flying around and leading the orchestra.

Thanks for the memories.
I first discovered Don Ellis in the late 60s at the Reno jazz festival where he was the guest artist. I've been a fan ever since.
By the way we took our division with a jazz version of Old Man River.

You're welcome madjack. Don Ellis was an amazing talent that left us way too soon.

A quarter tone electric trumpet isn't everyone's cup of tea but I loved it.
