Right! That's why people didn't exist until oil was discovered in Titusville, PA in 1859.

Fortunately nobody’s talking about its elimination, just reducing the burning of it for cleaner air and a healthier life for all.

A typically simplistic (dumbed down for the masses) - and erroneous (as Tom points out) - message. Climate change is real. You'll see for yourself in 15 years.

I've never stated that climate change is not real. I just thought it was interesting in that most people including myself didn't realize just how dependent we are on petroleum.

I noticed it on the farm.

When I moved to Massachusetts in 1982 the historical average last frost date was May 15 and the historical average first frost date was September 15. Observed dates were probably about a week earlier in the spring and later in the fall.

When I retired from farming in 2017 the last frost date had been around April 15 and the first frost date had been around October 15 for the previous 8-10 years. About 6 weeks added to the growing season over 35 years. I had to continually adjust my greenhouse work to have plants ready for the field earlier every year. I had to put lights into my farm stand because the longer season caused night to fall before we closed the stand. We had to work harder to close up the farm for winter because we got a later start every year.

When we first moved there we had a runs of several days with below zero temperatures in the winter pretty much every year. After about 2005 we probably had a total of 5 days that got below zero.

Peach trees can be killed if the temperature drops below about -15F, so although MA was able to grow peaches, there were no peach orchards north of about halfway up New Hampshire. These temperatures are moderating and peach orchards are starting to appear in those northern areas. Peaches require something like 200-1000 chilling hours (depending on cultivar) to bear fruit. A loss of 100 chilling hours can lead to 50% drop in yields. As southern areas get warmer, there's danger of peach trees not being economically feasible in southern states (think Georgia). I don't know any Georgia orchardists but I would bet they are planning to shift cultivars over the next few decades.

The USDA publishes a zone map showing where the expected minimum winter temperatures are, which determines what plants will survive a winter. The map has changed a couple times over the last couple decades.

According to articles I found, plastics comprise less than 10% of petroleum's usage. But yeah, no denying it's in many 20th and 21st century products, most of them throwaway

The company that produced the 2017 video you linked, California Resources Corporation, went through bankruptcy in 2020, but found millions of dollars to pay their executives:

You do realize that they said that 15 years ago...30 years ago.
Not saying something is going on.
The US is not the problem however...nor should we pay for everyone else.
85% of the world's oil is controlled by ... governments.

One great thing often overlooked about oil...it saved the whales.

Agreed. I notice they didn't show a photo of refineries belching pollutants, whales ensnared in plastic netting, overflowing landfills, PFAS contaminated drinking water, etc., etc. that we'd also "miss" if it weren't for petroleum products. Don't gt me wrong; our technology would be impossible without plastics. Unfortunately, no one producing petroleum products bothered to address the waste products it creates.

Sounds like Solandra. Remember them? Solar panel company.
Took $500m from the government and folded.

No proof it's man made though. Explain climate change on Mars. Climate change and pollution are 2 different issues.

👍👍👍

The climate has been changing for eons... and will continue to do so. Man's contribution to greenhouse gases is less than 2% of the total.

Thanks for your voice of reason. This video is a total distraction from the real issue.
