Trading in at Nikon

I would like to upgrade my Nikon Z6 for the new Nikon Z6II. Nikon has a trade-in program where they estimate a trade-in price ($) based on your perceived item condition. Anyone have experience using Nikon’s program? Have you been satisfied with their estimate before and after the exchange?

You’re bound to get a lot more selling it yourself. If we weren’t remodeling our kitchen, I’d be interested. Try selling it in our classified section.

Go online to KEH. Fill in the blanks for want to sell. Get their price and compare it to Nikons.

Many of us here have dealt with KEH and find them to be very reputable.

Yes. Their offer to me was laughable. D800e, 32K clicks, 9/10 overall condition (10 being "line new") was $68.

Thanks for the replys. MPB is selling used z6’s for slightly over $1k so I’m sure they’ll offer about $800-900 while the Nikon offer is for $895. The Nikon advantage is they expedite the new camera in 2 days but they will send an email with the actual refund price. That price may or may not be the same as the initial offer based on their estimate of condition. By then you probably have been shooting with the new camera long enough that you won’t want to return it if the refund is lower than the initial offer. It’s a crap shoot!

Because it is a Z series, Nikon might give you a pretty good deal. I asked about my D810 & MBP came in over double what Nikon or B&H offered. Good luck & enjoy your new camera if you trade up.

Very likely they have little interest in buying SLRs. IOW, $68 is not an offer they’d expect you to accept. It seems like just a message: “Please put your antiques on eBay. Have a nice day.”

Also try MPB. Recently they were $200 higher on a lens I sold.

I have seen low balls many times but the offer to buy your camera from Nikon is indeed laughable. Advertise the camera in the buy-sell section of UHH and I bet you will get an excellent price for the camera.
All these camera stores buying used gear are going to make a profit. The profit is going to be an excellent one because they buy for pennies....as you have seen.

You will be always better off selling it yourself.

I’ve had a couple of good experiences. They’re fast and easy. I did my homework and looked at other places that took trade-ins. Of course, you’ll almost always get more $$ if you take the time to sell it yourself.

Also MPB. Better offers than KEH and easy to deal with. They and Adorama also do trades.

My guess is that was a typo. $680 isn’t too bad but you should do a little better.

There is a camera like yours in Excellent condition on KEH for sale at $886. I think they might offer 70% of the selling price.
Excellent at KEH will look like new.
