Limited 1-Year Warranty
Limited 4-Year USA Warranty Extension with Online Registration
Like I said, you get 5 years on most lenses. What is so hard for you to understand about that.
Good afternoon fellow Hedgehogs. If you think the new Nikon warranty stinks you will really be upset with the new view retailers are taking with "gray market" products. B & H has washed their hands of separating out the grays from the USA warranties. However you have to read all of their data website) in order to discover that little piece of information. There is a lot of reading between the lines there but, it's all there.

Read the warranty:
"Nikon Cameras, Lenses, Flashes and Accessories
All new Nikon cameras, lenses, flashes and accessories purchased from a Nikon Authorized Dealer include a one-year limited warranty. During this one year period, if the product is found by Nikon to be defective in material or workmanship, Nikon Inc. will either repair or replace the product without charge (as long as it meets the terms of the warranty). No registration is needed, simply retain your original dated proof-of-purchase and warranty card in case warranty service is needed. Read the complete Nikon Digital Imaging Limited Warranty"
The link takes you here:
"Nikon Limited Warranty and Product Registration
Nikon Limited Warranty
Nikon Mirrorless Z Camera Bodies, NIKKOR Z Lenses, Digital SLR Camera Bodies, NIKKOR Lenses, Nikon Speedlights, and COOLPIX Cameras.
These Nikon products purchased directly from Nikon Inc. or one of our Authorized Nikon Dealers or Resellers come with our One Year Limited Warranty. Please see the One Year Limited Warranty included in the product box for more details. Also, please keep your One Year Warranty and the original, dated proof of purchase for the product in a secure, dry place so that they will be available if your Nikon product ever needs warranty service."
Were does it say 4 more years?
YES, dummy, it is a CHANGE; companies can and do make changes without consulting you.

This is all a bit disheartening. I don't want to jinx myself, I've never needed warrantee repair, but it is discouraging that Nikon decided to terminate the 5 year extension.
I've just loaded film and batteries into my 54 yr.-old Nikon FTn and am itchin' to use it this spring. Everything on that old machine works perfectly, including the TTL light meter. I never gave a thought to how long the warrantee was valid for. A well cared-for Nikon and its lenses just ain't gonna break, IMHO.

I have a well cared for F and an excellent cared for 50mm f1.4 lens that does not work. The other 50mm f1.4 slightly newer but still pre-AI still works great though.

Doesn't AI (auto-indexing) mean it has the little bracket on top that connects the lens to the light-meter? You can have my 50mm/f1.4 (AI) if you pay the postage.

I have a pre-AI which does have the indexing ears on the lens. AI have a perforated ear in the lens.
Thank you for the wonderful offer but my other one works just great, glad I have it.
I have several very old lenses that have quit and keep them for display purposes in my office.

If your post made sense, it would cause me some worry. But your post is sloppy and incoherent. Try again.

A friend just purchased a new lens and was surprised that it came wihonly a 1 year warrantee. Mine all had 5 year warrantees. Is this a change, or did I have to register it to get the extension?
Nikon is trying to cut corners as part of their restructuring and downsizing....hopefully 2021 is a turnaround year for Nikon otherwise they might wind up like Olympus.
I consider this sound advice worth following. Unfortunately, most people have a consumer mindset. They want the newest thing right now so refuse to delay gratification. Your sons are off to a great start. I’ll bet you’ve read “The Millionaire Next Door.” I think it should be required reading as early as middle school.
