Thank you to everyone that replied with very helpful suggestions...unfortunately that adaptor that was suggested would still not work because the 1/4” part needed to be twice as long that was available. Not finding any part with a longer thread, I just ordered a new tripod... this way no worries and stress.
Thank you this group has been very helpful, wish me luck
The 1/4x20 screw use on most tripods of today can be adapted to the larger 3/8 x16 which was common in equipment production of years past. One of my brass and wooden tripods and a Field camera, from Germany, had a 3/8 mount. I know of a few old film cameras that had 3/8 mounts, such as, Praktica, Zenit, Federal and Exakta. Going back to my military days, several of the 35mm and 70mm cameras we used in aircraft had this larger mount. The 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor works well and is very inexpensive at about $5.00 or less.
