It is still a limited function auxiliary piece of equipment. Unless all you do is general videography you will need more equipment to get the job(s) done. And, if you think DOF is not important for film, you have never watched a film. It is how attention is pulled to a subject.

That is all I have been saying all along.
If you are a videographer...invest in the dedicated video gear (camcorders).
Your money is better spent there.
Better controls...better tech...better internal audio...it's just better.

Again, the same companies that make and sell camcorders (from novice to professional) are the same companies that sell cameras (from novice to professional).
They aren't about to slit their own financial throats by giving all of their cutting edge video tech to cameras.
Certainly not before they satisfy their dedicated video lines.
Which unlike cameras...are selling strong...stronger than cameras are.
I can see the consumers POV...but if you sat on one of those companies BOD ... you'd decide to do exactly what they have been doing.
Best tech for video into their dedicated lines....trickle down to cameras later.

Lately I'm reading a lot of information about 4K & 8K video capabilities in the new full frame mirrorless cameras. I know it is convenient to have the capability of photographs & video in 1 camera but video/battery time is limited & overheating is prevalent. If you want to shoot video, why not just buy a video camera?

I shoot mostly video. Had some sports events triathlon and running festivals and always use my Sony PXW-70 camcorder. Video camcorders are still made for shooters of video. I have the Sony a7s II and cine lens
and a great rig but when loaded with a monitor, audio and a cage it is messy and heavy. If you are just
shooting video with a mic on top of mirrorless and maybe a bracket to stabilize or small rig it is better
to have lens choices. I run and guy with the video camera but also used a Sony RX10 III bridge camera
for soccer games 24 600 zeiss lens it is great. Good luck.
