Hello everyone. I have a Metz flash that I purchased in the mid 80s early 90s. I used that flash for probably 15 years and then I put it away. Last week I put it to work and of course the battery is dead.
Do any of you have an idea where I can find the battery? Metz stopped making the flash and battery in the early 2000s. This was probably the best flash I ever used, and would like to use it again in my classes. This is a powerfull flash and it can be great using it in a studio setting.

There is a battery warehouse a few miles from me that say they can rebuild almost any battery for power tools, computers and any other device. Look in your area for a similar place. I have used them for car, tractor, RV batteries. I have heard others say they have had specialty batteries rebuilt by them and are very happy.

I would call Battery Plus. Give them all the specs you have. They may beable to match one.

Thank you for that number, I am not sure if they can. I stop last Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin at a Battery + and they told me that they don't carry that particular battery. But I am going to call the number and find out.

Thank you very much.

There is or was a holder for AA size. It slides in instead of the rechargeable pack. Has the same two clip latches etc.

The type of battery for the Metz is common just the size is not. I can't find any battery that would fit in the case although I can find a lot that would work if I am willing to keep the battery outside of the case.
There is this

I haven't used it and it's Li-on battery so it needs separate charger (the Metz charger won't work). It's supposed to hold more charge than the Metz battery but I heard it that it doesn't. But that is about the only option.

I had one of those Metz flash units, too. Great flash! I got a replacement battery from Batteries Plus, and not a bad price, either. Of course that was a few years ago, so I don't know if they would have it now. You might try some other Batteries Plus stores, because some are better than others. Some just don't want to be bothered with finding it for you, while others go out of their way to help.

Does the ct60 use the same battery pack as the ct45 ? B&H, and also Amazon, has packs for the 45, both rechargeable and empty AA types.

This Lithium-Ion kit seems like the best choice. There are also Gel0-Cells which are sealed Lrad_Acid batteries that are available from battery specialty retailers.

In the meantime, if you have an AC converter for your old Metz unit, make sure the capacitors are reformed. Power up the unit and leave it on for a wheel before flashing, the fire it of several times.

I work at Batteries Plus in Chandler, AZ (Phoenix suburb). There are a couple of big "IF's" to your battery pack rebuild. One; if the pack can be removed without destroying the case & two; if the pack is either Ni-cad or Nickel Metal Hydrid (Ni-MH). If both of those conditions are met, chances are very good that the pack can be rebuilt.

I can't find any gel lead acid battery that is the same size at the original battery. They are only a few mm larger in one dimension and smaller in others. But none would fit. That besides the notch on the original battery to prevent the use from installing it in reverse polarity.

No! In fact the 45CT rechargeable pack can be recelled.

Another option is to buy a used Metz 60-39 which a NiCad pack. The cells are probably dead but you can recell them relatively easy. You need 5 sub C NiMH cells to recell it. The 60-39 has screws so you can disassemble it easy. But spending like $70 on ebay for a dead battery kind of hurt.
The Metz 60 series can take either dryfit (which is sealed gel lead acid) or NiCad and you just need to set the tab in the battery compartment to match.

Thank you very much for all your help. I did go to Batteries + and unfortunately, the battery cannot be rebuilt, if open all there is inside is acid and copper. So I am going to order the battery from https://www.sabahoceanic.com/epages/sabahoceanic.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/portablepower/Products/A0116 But, I will wait for their response to my questions first.
I also found the battery in Canada but is $100 more than the one from sabahoceanic.com. Shipping and customs charges make the battery too much $$$.
Anyway, I just want to again, thank everyone that took the time to help me. I am truly grateful.
