How do you clean out 40+ years of photography equipment and books

I sold a camera recently to mpb. Their price was considerably higher than Keh's offer. I have bought used from both mpb and Keh (also Roberts). All were good.

Before you decide to sell or give away. Just do one thing it will make you and your loves very happy. Take as many pictures as necessary of everything you have. Each item will have hundreds of memories for you and everyone around you. My father had an old Argus C3 before he passed away I showed him the camera (which I still have) and we talked about all the great and sometimes not so great shots he took. So teared both of us up for different reasons. So just a thought, it might bring back something or someone you forgot. Every time I see that camera I smile.

Great idea, the photos.
Memory is a strange thing. When we down sized from a 2000 sqft + basement + a 2nd home (1000 sqft + basement) to only the smaller a lot had to go, even more should have. At any rate, we had boxes of papers going hack 30 yrs. I went thru everyone, even college exams once has SS# on them. A lot of work, but amazing what memories they brought back.

I have seen at a number of estate sales that the perceived value of photo gear is based on its original cost, and is usually much higher than its present value--at least to me. Lots of photo gear is old and rarely used film stuff, still functional, but obsolete, despite the recent interest which is limited. There is much more gear available than "collectors" willing to pay top dollar for an old Graflex camera. And there are few sources willing to shell out a bundle for the entire lot rather than pick out the good stuff, so be realistic, and good luck.
