I thought this was very funny.
I don't get it and I doubt I'll be the only one.

Yes. Only, actually they don't.

Also I don't think moles like sand as their main diet are worms.

An ostrich is known for sticking its head in the ground (although it doesn't, really). A gopher is known for living underground (really). That's how they met.
Don't feel bad. I doubt there are many ostriches or gophers in London.

hj lives in Florida not London.
uhh, how did they see each other through dirt? Or in the dark if it was a mole tunnel? Do ostriches see in the dark? How come the other ostrich did not know how they met? Why do they have a lighted dynamite between them? was that an alien? Was their daughter a rabbit? That's a pretty tall bunny if that was a window.I see the eye, where's the rest of the octopus? Why does the mole have four front legs? Why don't they have table? The grape pie & pipe are on the floor. Why do they have different feet? One has 3 toes, the other has 4 toes and real ostriches has only 2? Why must they remind one another about something that both know? Are they senile alien ostriches? The moles eyes are too big, is that an alien too? And what about...

The sexual life of the ostrich
Is stranger than you might think
At the height of the mating season
It tries to B-gg-r the Sphynx
But what of the other ostrich
When it sees it's mates Ass in the air?
Does he go for gratification
Or doesn't he really well care?

...plenty of options. They have a fair shaped beak and pretty good at burying their heads...

Many of the items in that cartoon appear in most of his drawings. It's just something he does.
As every child learns at an early age, ostriches can see very well in the dark. That's why children are warned about going out alone at night because ostriches hunt at night, and they love little children.
Although these ostriches are friends, the guest ostrich and the gopher are a fairly new couple, so the rest of its ostrich circle doesn't know much about the little guy.
As for discrepancies in the toes, eyes, etc., the author adds them to each cartoon on purpose. The reader who sends him a list of all the "errors" first receives $100.
It's also a bit ironic that these two are a couple. Gophers and ostriches are long-time enemies. Bands of gophers emerge from the ground at night and hunt down lone ostriches, preferably after they've just hunted and eaten.
