This is another in the recent series of mouthparts. This one is my preserved Bess Beetle which make their living chewing decaying logs and limb deadfall. They are highly social and caring parents and surely one of my favorite finds that I have posted in various views in the past.

A work of structurally functional art. Great detail, great coloring, and texture.

Absolutely beautiful, Sippy!! What a thrill it is to find one of these creatures, and I'm glad they're chewers and not biters! 😬

Thanks, Donna. They are very, very beneficial to the health of the woodlands by enriching the soil from aiding in the decomposition of the tree deadfall.
