I started this project just before thanksgiving and finished it two weeks ago. Since we have more than a single shower and bath, I have been taking time to do the work at my retirement pace. That way I still get to enjoy my leisure time and all the labor is free. Most of the shots are with the iPhone, so no real effort was made for super quality photos. They’re just enough for the insurance portfolio.
As I had said I would show the finish when I first posted about the shower leaking, here is the project before and after. Just in time for the Lady’s knee replacement. Lots of room inside, low curb and easy to access. She is quite happy. Says she feels like she’s in a fancy hotel bath when she’s in there. Happy wife, Happy Petey.
And since our travel plans have been canceled for now, I’m getting prepped to redo the other upstairs bath. I doubled up my material orders from the first one and saved a big chunk of cash that way. Discounts for larger quantities was a lesson learned long ago.

There was water and termite damage throughout the decking and into the outside wall studs. Luckily the wall plates were relatively undamaged and were easy to repair.

Plumbing completed, water barrier in place, tile ready shower pan set in mortar and ready for flashing the corners and bottom edge with Fortiflash. Wonderboard is next

The final product. 3/8” tempered glass door and wall, tall baseboards and rounded corners throughout. The wall tiles are 18” polished Travertine and the diamond pattern floor tiles are 16”. Shower floor is 2” diamond shape Travertine Tumblestone

The Lady of the house wanted a custom Vanity. So I hand made one for her that’s 38” to the top of the granite for us tall people, has 4 drawers, and Starfish with rhinestones for handles

The insets have custom made sea-life tiles in them. The Octopus is surrounded by 1" mosaics with Starfish, tiny mirrors plus some rough stone and glass pieces too.

The fixtures are a Graf temp control valve with diverter. Made with solid brass with 3/4 inch inlets. No more waiting for the hot water, its on in 1 minute or less to the preset temperature. The 3/4" lines make a big difference in flow.

In 1978 I bought what was once an old farm house built in 1929. Over the years extensive remodeling and updating was done. I did much of it myself and sold it in 2015. At my age never again. My present house was built in 2004 and anything I need done I pay someone else to do it. I've got power tools sitting on shelves in my garage that never get used. You did a very nice job. Looks really good.

No thanks, that sounds like work. This is more like killing time.
As to base cabinets, thats true, you can use them, if you can find one the right size, but I have the tools, the time and a 2 car garage that I use for my shop. Making the drawer faces and door helped me remember old times and I was able to keep active. The face frame and sides are easy to dowel up and I have a very nice belt sander for leveling up the surfaces. All win win. I used to take my face frames, drawer faces and doors in to be drum sanded, but I have been building things for a long time and I enjoy the challenge of it. Plus my labor is paid for with Sushi and beer. Again, a win win.

Thanks. I try to keep as active as possible. I’m still young enough (68) and I’d like to keep moving as long as possible. I already have the aches and pains from my construction and lineman careers, and I’ve seen where the road leads. I’m making hay while the sun still shines.

That could work with the accents in the tile. My lady was wanting something resembling the local beach setting and the pastels worked well for that concept. She had me do a darker tint of the main color for the back wall. And the ceiling has a very light blue green tint.

You did a very nice job, well done. Your tile work looks great. It's a good amount of work when floors have to be replaced; I'm currently working on a bath at my daughters house where the floor had to be replaced.
