FedEx Delivery Issues

I wanted to alert my fellow UH's to a problem that I and other in my neighborhood at least, have been and are still experiencing with FedX deliveries. In particular, the fact that Fed X does not come up the drive to deliver a package--even though I requested to have package left at my garage door. Nor do they honor the requirement for a direct signature. I ordered a Hasselblad lens and it was delivered to the TOP OF MY MAILBOX--which is located right at the street. No signature was requested by the FedX driver, even though BH clearly stated that a direct signature was required (see attached). A would-be thief could have just driven by, picked up the package and have gotten clean away. This situation is not just with high value packages, from my experience all packages from FedX have been delivered in this manner. They even left one out in the rain. I filed a "formal complaint" (the supposed magic words to get some action from FedX) and still nothing happened--no response of any kind. I also complained to BH explaining that it would have been their problem had the package been stolen. They told me that they too would file a complaint. The take way is this, keep an eye out for your FedX packages. You never know if they have not been delivered or stolen and apparently a direct signature requirement is just a suggestion to FedEx so you can't rely on that either. Even though it will cost me money, I'm going to use UPS from now on.

In my experiences, FedEx is the bottom of the barrel. They must go out of their way to use lazy, illiterate drivers.

I hate to agree, but FedEX provides the worst service.

In my experience, both Fed Ex and UPS leaves packages at my doorstop and not my mailbox. UPS usually rings the doorbell and knows. Fed Ex, only sometimes.

Also note that sometimes FedEX uses USPS to deliver things. Why this happens I do not know. It might be explained ahead of time, but if it is, I missed it.

USPS sometimes is excellent with the carrier leaving a box at the door.

A recent experience with FedExLax...I ordered mdse. from an outfit in Mass. FedExLax picked it up 2/1/2021 and scheduled and rescheduled delivery dates three times while in route to Utah...then they stoppped scheduling delivery dates. The package finally arrived in Salt Lake on 2/11/2021 and was not delivered until 2/23/2011...how's that for delivery service...and no communication from FedExlax!! I even called and went to a FedExLax Distribution Hub for are area and they told me it was a USPO problem. USPO had no record of ever receiving my package.

Calling the company where I made the purchase was almost as useless/clueless as they could not get intelligent responses from FedExLax either. I will no longer buy from any company that ships via FedExLax!!

End of rant...

In central NJ, UPS is much more efficient than Fedex. Although my front door is under cover, Fedex has left packages at the start of my walkway in the rain, has damaged packages, has lost packages and has delivered items to other addresses (even on other streets)that were addressed to me. I retired six years ago, but instructed vendors when I was in business to never use Fedex for shipments to me. All UPS warehouses and trucks are company owned; Fedex sells distribution routes and some franchisees are better than others.

I’m not happy with Fedx either. They delivered an expensive lens to a neighbor’s house instead of mine. Luckily I recognized the signature and was able to go get it. They have incorrectly delivered my packages to neighbor’s houses 3x in the last six months. A higher value guitar I ordered was lost for 3 days by Fedx. Luckily they found it, delivered it to my house, but just left it at the door even though a signature was required. USPS is even worse in my area. So far, UPS is reliable.

I am now checking with my merchants for their policy on lost shipments. Be careful here! There are two policies out there: 1) You own it when it leaves their dock; 2) They own it until you receive it. For anything of value, I only do business with merchants that own it until it gets in my hands and will make it good if it doesn’t reach me.

FedEx is a disaster in my neighborhood too. We ship about 2 USPS bins of packages daily, scheduled for pickup through USPS. We set the bins out on the front porch daily for USPS pickup. I place a sign with huge font size "OUTGOING US MAIL ONLY, PLACE NO PACKAGES" on top of the outgoing mail. Invariably the FedEX driver would come along and place the packages he was dropping off right on top of the outgoing mail. If the USPS picks up the packages before I can retrieve the FedEx package, away it goes. Fortunately my USPS mail carrier has seen this rodeo before and does a quick visual check for anything that looks like it shouldn't be there, thereby earning a nice (and legal) token of appreciation during the holiday season. I called the local FedEx Ground vendor to inform of the issue and I was assured that the problem would be addressed in the next day's team meeting. Of course it continued until I caught the lazy driver red-handed and read him a few chapters of the Riot Act. Of course, I mentored him using my old CPO skills so as to not create animosity towards me or to retaliate with additional issues in future deliveries.

Just this week, the Nextdoor App for our neighborhood was flooded with complaints of neighbors package food orders (Blue Apron, Sunbasket, etc.) indicating delivery but not delivered to the correct residence or having gone missing. There were widespread accusations ranging from pure incomptence to illiteracy to outright theft. On the day with the most complaints, someone also posted that the FedEx driver LOST HIS WALLET in the neighborhood while making deliveries and to be on the lookout for it. The consensus here is "Karma is a Bitch". The driver is not getting any sympathy around here.

We get outstanding service from UPS and USPS. FedEx is the "Private Pyle" of the platoon.

FedEx in my area is awesome. A company recently ignored my address and put a substitute on two packages to me. The first was delivered to someone on a mountain top 10 miles away. They put a notice on NextDoor and the neighbor delivered it to me a day later. A FedEx employee saw the NextDoor post and delivered the next package to me even though it also had wrong address.

Needless to say no more orders from that company.

PS: They always deliver to my door and honor sig requirements.

All three UPS, USPS, and FedEx are great in my neighborhood. They leave the package right next to my door, get signatures when required, and even say hello if I happen to get to the door in time.

Every once in a while something will go wrong with a delivery (not specific to any single carrier), and they seem to track down the issue and fix it promptly.

I live in a rural area and my drive way is hard to see and you can't see my house from the private road either....we have issue's with all deliveries when a new hire first learns the route....at the end of the private drive is an old camper...you can tell no one lives in it ...but that's where the packages get left for the first couple of times till the new driver figures out that no one lives there!

I always leave special instructions for the delivery drivers but that doesn't always work. So I know to go look at that old decrepit, falling apart camper when we don't get a package that shows it was already delivered.

FedEx, UPS, Purolator, Canpar and Amazon are all great in my neighbour hood. FedEx was here this morning right to the door, he was surprised when I opened and then said good morning. Canada Post is useless, slower than every other service and if it doesn’t fit in the super community mailbox you get a card that says we tried to deliver but couldn’t pick it up at the Post Office.

I've gotta knock on wood, I think maybe once have I had a problem with Fed-Ex, they have always brought our packages to the door and rang the door-bell to let us know.
Now as far as the other guys are concerned, USPS and UPS. UPS is a run and gun, along with a throw, I always know when they have arrived as i usually hear the package land on my front porch, and the USPS well we wont even go there.

I received a package that required a signature. The driver handed me the package and said that he had to sign for it because of covid. He signed the pad and left. Not the best idea if you ask me.
