Any recommendations for online, video or printed resources that do a particularly good job in introducing this camera to a new user? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Check the Sony site. They have on-line user manual.

The David Busch books are great for sony's and creative live has a class that takes you through every button and menu feature and is very well done.

Another thumbs up for David Busch's guide. I believe it was out of print but is back again now. The Sony manual is pretty useless. It goes through the menu lists, but gives no context or when or how to use the settings. There are some things that you will want to do that involve two or three different setting in different menus. Busch's book will take you though them - the Sony guide won't.

After a quick look I'm already convinced that the Sony Guide is pretty useless

Consensus is that Friedman is the best written guide. The best video course I've found is on Creative Live so not free, but it's all of $12 right now:

https://www.creativelive.com/class/sony-a6000-fast-start-john-greengo/lessons/introduction-basic-controls

Clear and comprehensive, and if you buy it you can revisit it as many times as you need or want.

Anyway, good luck, I hope you love this super great value camera as much as I do.

Thank you. I am familiar with Creative Live's Fast Start Guides and will get this one. Will also check out the Friedman book.

Look into Gary L. Friedman.
He writes the best books on every Sony Camera.
Way far better then the books that come with your camera.
