It appears that Epson does have it in stock on their own website. All of their other photo scanners are showing out of stock there. Due to the pandemic, many people who are stuck at home are tackling the scanning of their photo collections, so photo scanners have been in short supply for almost the last year.
There are a few listed on Ebay.

Plus product was probably stopped manufacturing & or shipping due to the pandemic.
The V850 is available directly from Epson, and Amazon appears to have it in stock as well. It's a great scanner.
OK, thanks. I had not thought of buying it directly from Epson. I guess I tend to shy away from Amazon for such an expensive purchase. I buy CDs and DVDs from Amazon all the time, even used lenses.
OK, I took a look at the Epson Web site, yes they have it in stock. But I decided to purchase it as they suggested from Best Buy so I could do store pick up and avoid any UPS or USPS confusion for shipment to my home. Best Buy says it should be available for rosdside pick up Friday February 25.
I got the old V500 PHOTO working again, just some confused software. And a confused me. I'll keep that for back up and reflected copy and leave the new V850 PRO set up for films.
Thanks for the good "info" on scanners. My trusted V500 needs a replace so I ordered B&H today for the V600. The V850 may be needed for big stuff but at $1100 it's a little expense. I also still have my Nikon 5000 scanner device which does the majority I need.

You may have noticed I worked out what I needed halfway through the thread. As for models, I take it you have no 8x10" film. I do.
Two reasons: First chips are in short supply for everything. Either Ford or GM announced recently they were shutting down production for weeks because they can't get the computer chips. COVID effects on plants.
Second, everyone is home, kids, parents, etc. I wanted a cheap laser printer for text printing. I had one but never could get it to work with Windows 10. After everyone I checked on Amazon was out until April?, I decided to try the old again and it worked right off, change in Windows, I don't know?
Things are in short supply for many reasons including weird supply issues. Aluminium is a problem, I heard, because beer in being drunk at home in cans instead of at bars from kegs, so more Al is going into can production. The price of pressure treated lumber had doubled where I live last summer because everyone is home remodeling or upgrading. Company Seven in Laurel, MD told me last fall that telescope were off the charts due to the comet and people wanting something to do, and so on.
I think an interesting question is what happens when the new normal, whatever and whenever that is, occurs. Lots of good?, used equipment for sale, movie goers don't because they spent a fortune on home theaters, etc., etc.

That is probably a good explanation. Probably why only high end items seem readily available. So many things messed up due to the Pandemic. Even some foods even in California are hard to come by right now. It is what I feared. Thanks for the reply.
A year or so ago I had what appeared to be a power supply problem with my V500. After I bought a new power supply I found it to be an ON/OFF switch problem. I had it for so long I forgot about the switch on the side. I had apparently pushed the rocker accidentally.
This fall I decided to replace it with a V600. No one seemed to have it in stock. Finally did find it in stock on-line at Best Buy and had it sent to the local store.
In this area Grapenuts disappeared maybe 6-8 weeks ago! At one point, they were saying that making enough vials for the vaccine might be a problem because, of all things, sand. Apparently, they need river sand to make the right kind of glass?
During the housing crash, acetonitrile solvent become impossible to get, reason, it was a by-product of rug production, no housing, no rugs = lab shuts down. Developing new methods to get around such things can be research projects in and of themselves, expensive, time consuming, might require new FDA approval etc.
Unless you are in the business knowing about supply chains is unneeded I guess, but interesting.
I've had good luck with the Wolverine SNaP 20MP scanner. It does slides and negatives, as well as 3x5, 4x6 & 5x7 photos. although I've only used it for slides.
