I have been trying to figure out a way to code thumbnails so I know by looking at a thumbnail if it has been finished, so I don't have to open each one to find out. Any ideas? I use PSE12 and Windows 10.

I don't have experience with PSE's Organizer if that's what you're asking. However, re viewing the file in Windows, you could simply rename the ones you're working on or have finished. Do a "save as" in PSE so that your original is still intact.

When I save a jpg from an edited raw file, I put a 1 in front of the camera-assigned file name. That way, when I open a folder of a day's shooting, the finished jpg's will show up first in the folder (sorted by name).

Both Win 7 and PSE 13 show date modified. Linda's suggestion, particularly if you saved to a "finished" folder with any time increment that worked with your workload (e.g: Spring 2021), your problem would be much reduced.

I use LrC. As soon as an image is developed to my satisfaction I mark it with five stars. This allows me to use filtering to pull up all 5-star images. It really does not matter which mark you use, stars, flags, color borders, only that you figure out a set system and use it. I never save images to any other folder just because they are developed as I can simply go back to LrC and export as needed. LrC is a very efficient, clean way of organizing images without having to duplicate or save-as.
