The "box" debate struck me funny! If I kept all the original packaging for all the gear I have purchased over the years, I would need a warehouse. All that thin cardboard would become a fire hazard. Besides, my lovely wife, who hates clutter and "rat packing" would protest vehemently.

I do keep a few original boxes on hand, along with the Styrofoam inserts, in the event I have to send a camera or lens in for repair.

I don't really see how retaining the original box increases the resale value of a camera or lens. The owner may have kept the box in pristine condition and abused the equipment. A knowledgeable buyer can make a reasonable assessment as to the condition of somethg he or she is about to purchase. Digital cameras have shutter counts and lenses that have been incorrectly cleaned or roughly treated will show signs of wear and tear. Reputable dealers rate their used gear accurately.

You said what I was thinking. Either many people aren't supporting the economy, i.e., not many boxes, or where do they keep them?

Here's a good one-
I sent an email regarding an email I received that implied my postal address was missing in the original registration and wanted to supply the postal address.

The reply:
"We are ignoring the address field in the individual survey. Since all communication to persons who have pre-registered is through email, you need a correct email on the survey. Please send an email to <address redacted> stating that your email is incorrect on the pre-registration survey. Include your name and the correct email."

If my email was in error, I would not have received the email I questioned.

A bit of a comprehension failure?

Common sense isn't common. I had issues with a smart watch registration and kept getting form letters back that didn't address my issues. Finally asked for refund. Refund didn't include orginal shipping so I told them refund shipping or I'm going to better business and refund issued next day.

Hopefully the title isn’t to harsh for everyone but it fits. I order a lot from Amazon as most do. I order the majority of photo equipment from Adorama.

A couple weeks ago I ordered a $4 pack of 500 popsicle sticks for my daughter to build things. They came in a box with air filled plastic bags for protection.

I’ve been wanting a new Canon RF lens which is out of stock almost everywhere. This lens is over $2,500 with tax. Amazon had 1 in stock. I ordered it because it was shipped and sold thru Amazon not some 3rd party. It came by UPS 2 days later. Low and behold they didn’t bother putting it in a box. Just shipped it in the original Canon box. The box is covered with about 8 or 9 big shipping stickers so you can’t really make out what the box is. One corner is slightly smashed or crushed. Nothing major.

I’m very tempted to return it. I don’t know if it has any damage. I assume it’s okay but seriously. Pack popsicle sticks and don’t pack an expensive lens. Who made this decision?

If I decide to sell it in the future someone would see all the shipping labels on the box and may not want it. I hate to return it because I may be waiting a while to find another.

The reason for all the shipping labels is I wasn’t home to sign for it. UPS decided to send it to the UPS store for me to pick up. They created more shipping labels with that stores address as well as additional instructions for the staff there.

My concern at this point is weather or not the lens could have been damaged.

I would thoroughly photo document the condition of the box, open it with minimal intrusion, and test the lens immediately to see if it is OK. If it is OK to your satisfaction, then notify Amazon (include a couple photos?) that it "appears" that the lens is OK, but you feel that the resale value has been compromised by the insecure shipping method now obvious to all, and ask for a lower price.
Or return the lens.

Some on here suggested I email this address jeff@amazon.com. I emailed all of my photos along with the concern. My response was nothing but a joke. It was a canned response. Basically saying "I'm so and so from the executive office of amazon. I'm sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with your recent purchase. its good to get responses from our consumers. We can take this opportunity to learn from our mistakes to try and create a better shopping experience for everyone." Then there was a survey at the bottom asking if this solved my problem. What a joke. Seriously amazon has turned to "SH*T" as far as I'm concerned.

The lens was returned. It was a lens "Sold and shipped from amazon" as many have asked. It was not a vendor.

I wouldn’t even ck out the lens. I would return it for refund. Keeping it would have me always wondering if the lens was going to fail; especially when on a photographic trip. Not worth it to me.

LOL, that email address actually worked for something. I doubt Bezos uses that email address himself.

As far as your return, I'm glad their actual customer service took care of it so quickly for you. I've never had issues with their return policy and it was never a hassle either.

I bought a blender from Amazon about a year ago. Arrived in an Amazon carton. Upon opening the carton I could see the box with the blender inside was ripped. I sealed the carton and returned it. Ordered another. It arrived in an Amazon carton. Upon opening the carton I could the box with the blender inside was not opened. I kept the blender.

I just noticed somethg interesting. If your title is a post with the words "stupid, stupidity, dumb idiotic, idiot, moron, moronic, ignorant, ignoramus, foolishness, or any other pejorative term that's pertinent to lack of intelligence, aptitude, or commons sense, you garner 12 or more pages!

So, if I post a topic entitles "How about those stupid skylight filters, idiots who don't shoot RAW and, all that foolishness about post-processing" the thread wud gobble up all the available bandwidth"!

Just a thought!

You might want to look for box for that lens on Ebay without labels.

BTW This is one of the best posts ever.

When I had a business a UPS high ranking manager lived above my office and one day I got a box with 7 out of 8 corners busted in pretty good. I put a big arrow on the one good corner and a note that said they missed this one. LOL. He took the box into work the next day and he was not happy and I'm sure his crew got ear full.

Send it back and wait for a perfect lens in a perfect package. That's what you paid for and that's what you want. It will mean a lot to the new owner if you ever decide to sell it that you have the original box and manual. Just MHO.
