The ponds of the Bear River marshes in Northern Utah are frozen and covered with snow. This pair of bald eagles were sitting on the ice watching at a distance as gulls, great-blue herons and American coots gathered around a break in the ice. The snow and high-key natural lighting made for an interesting background to these majestic birds.

Thanks Mike. There are a lot fewer people at BRMBR than Farmington Bay, but the bird species seem to be about the same. Both are great spots for winter bird photography!

Thanks, Sinewsworn. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Yes, I think that the eagle in the last two photos is likely in its' third winter based on the coloring of the head, beak and eyes. The eagle in the first two photos looks to me like it's in its' fourth year. I'm no expert, just comparing to photos of other bald eagles where the age was known.
