being able to get the same image from a greater distance. It's also one hell of a portrait lens

I have four. I have a 50mm, 60mm, 90mm and 100mm and I'm keeping them all and I use them all. Mostly I use them for closeup and near macro photos of plants and flowers. As noted the 100mm lets me place the camera farthest back and the 50mm gets me in tight. I probably use the 90mm the most and the 60mm next then the 100mm and the 50mm least. I've had enough occasions when I've started out selecting one and then discovered I needed to switch to another.

I wasn't aware Nikon made a 100mm macro. Did you mean 105mm? I had the 60mm, and to shoot at the maximum magnification the subject was so close to the lens that I couldn't use the Len hood. So I got the 105mm which solved that problem, and also it has VR, which is good since I like to shoot handheld.

He means 105 f2.8. Awesome lens but I hardly ever use it.
Now would use it on my Z6 so VR doesn’t matter. IBIS is better.

Bob, if you are using your 60 on a DX body, then you are effectively at the 90 mm people are already discussing. If you are on a full frame body, then moving up to the 90-105 range gets you vastly more comfortable working distances when getting really close.

Maybe the add was wrong, i was on Adorama i'll look again later. Thank you for your help. I really don't parko.I don't like my 60mm. I want to get 200 - 500 zoom. There is'nt much at apartment complex. I'm going to get a 3 wheeled bike so I can get to the local ao have halve buy a new tripod.Iwas playing with it one evening. And did'nt put it away tripped over it.

You also get more comfortable working distances with the 105 on a DX body.

At 1:1 magnification ratio you will just gain 3.5" (inches) working distance.
May be an advantage if shooting wasps up close ?

Stabilization.
Didn’t really need anther macro but did want a Tamron 85 with OIS, a rare OIS prime ... but the 100 popped up on uhh and, hey, what’s 15mm between friends anywho ?
Also, my own 100 has an in-lens motor. I’m not aware of a 50 or 60 that offers that.
