Dam', I am a Photo addict of many decades, and I do have a camera most of the time, but I recall times when I thought it was a bit of an anchor that interfered with actually "Living Life". Anyone else feel that on occasion?

There have been times I was so mesmerized with what I was seeing, I forgot all about the camera.

Certainly. If I'm at a food store picking up groceries, at the barbershop or at the dentist, it is not likely that I will be carrying my DSLR camera on me. And to be honest, I don't want it on me at all times. Eventually it would turn into of a obsessive-driven burden rather than an enjoyable hobby. My life doesn't revolve around constantly taking pictures; I have plenty of other interests. Whenever some states that they have a camera with them at all times, I can't help but think that they are grossly exaggerating how much they really have a camera with them. Unless they are referring to their smartphone - that I can believe!

Certainly. If I'm at a food store picking up groce... (show quote)

I have a Sony RX100III with me virtually all the time, even when I'm working in the yard. Prior to the Sony, I carried a little Canon S100 pocket-camera.

Very often feel as you do. Therefore I seldom carry a camera because having it available conditions me to be watchful for photo opportunities instead of life opportunities. Being cameraless is very liberating. I still habitually see through photographer eyes, but I don’t hafta do anything about it.

When I do carry a camera, I’ve chosen (on those days) that “photo readiness” can intrude into my life. But most days are not those days. Even on “camera days” the camera usually doesn’t come out of its bag.

I couldn’t care less about missed photo ops. I observe and even refine photo ops that occur on most days (cameraless days) but I don’t feel that I MUST make photos simply to pursue opportunities. The mental activity is the same whether I record the opportunity via a camera, or record it in temporary human memory.

Assuming that the title describes the content of the pdf and the purpose of the thread, I accepted the expense of having a premium compact to take with me when a DSLR is too big or bothersome to bring along. Having a camera with you keeps you on the lookout and exercises your senses and observation skills.

If you leave you camera at home, you're not a photographer.

Almost 100% of the time a camera is on my person. It can shoot macro, wide angle, telephoto, and I can control the camera settings if I choose.

It also allows me to communicate, provides directions, answers questions, send photos, connect and interact with forums (UHH), order or cancel purchases any time of the day or night, and so much more. Its so inconspicuous I hardly know I'm carrying a camera. Yes it doesn't have all the specs of my "Big" camera but I don't need that all the time and the advantages for me out weigh the negatives. And it didn't break the bank.

On those rare occasions when its accidently left behind I feel naked.
