Bluebirds

Saw the number of Bluebirds locally increasing a lot this week. Captured this pair a couple of days ago with my Sigma 100-400 Contemporary on a Leica SL2. The female is shy!

I have a lot of them here, doing my part to increase their numbers. They struggle now because of the nasty European House Sparrow. Nice shot of the male.

I have recently moved to eastern Tn. and would love to have blue birds in my area. What will draw them in as far as food goes.

They love open meadows and nesting boxes. I dont know a food you could put out, I think they primarily eat insects.

First they love wide open areas, not wooded areas. They love bugs to eat, mealworms are a favorite. You can buy the dried ones and they will gobble them up but remember lots of other birds like them. I have a feeder to keep large birds out.

We put up 5 nesting boxes rather late last year, all were used. We have half a dozen more on order to place this year. We are in rural Montana. Audubon has good info on building and placing for best results.
