Your first 10,000 images are your worst. Thank goodness they're now all digital.

“Another view” posts some excellent points. Don’t get hung up on the DSLR v mirrorless debate. It does not matter.

If you think a DSLR and a mirrorless are the same, you don't have a mirrorless. One isn't even an acronym.

Hello I’m jdaugherty. I would like to learn about photography mainly as a hobby. I could READ about the difference between DSLR and digital and which is better all day. Which makes my brain hurt. I prefer hands on knowledge. So if anyone could spare a few moments of time all replies will be appreciated.Don’t want to start any fights 😂 maybe just DLSR OR DIGITAL and why you like it! Thank you

Welcome first of all.

You may not like reading, but you are going to have to read no matter what.

After deciding what it is you want to trade the camera for. You will have to read and decide which one meets your wants and needs.

As a beginner I would only recommend one of three cameras.

Nikon D3500, around $500 with a lot lens. A dslr.

Canon rebel EOS T7, around $500 with lens.

Mirrorless is the way of the future. You can get a Sony a6100 with a lens for around $700.

These are all entry leavel and will give you great results.

As I said, you need to read, the following article is a good one to read.

https://www.tomsguide.com/face-off/dslr-vs-mirrorless-cameras

If you have a local camera store, I would talk to them and get hands on with any you are considering.

With the wrong camera, success is probably 99% luck. But with a mirrorless camera, it's 100% the photographer.

I really don't think with you it matters if you use one with a mirror or not.... it'll still be good

OK....there are now 5 pages of what??? Ninety percent BS and zero help. Again try YouTube. There you will get some information that is of help.
My $.02 if I were to get another camera it would be mirrorless. This is one guy here who takes great pictures he is a proponent of Nikon Z5. That would be my choice.

Can anyone name what brand camera or lens Edward Weston used without first Googling the information?

I'm confused. How does the design of the box surrounding the sensor and the type of viewfinder impart some magic ju-ju as to whether or not you can take great pictures? Are you admitting that until Sony broke this new ground, you were a crap photographer and didn't know how to use what you had for equipment? From what I have read, Sony menus are an abortion and the ergo's are not everyone's cup of tea but Nikon DSLRs nailed those feature-sets a long time ago. MILS may have some technical differences, but I will put my fine art portfolio built entirely by DSLRs up against anyone else's. And quite honestly, I defy you to identify mirrorless from DSLR images at 72dpi without looking at the metadata. There are no special intrinsic qualities that set mirrorless apart aside from maybe some design advantages. The keeper image transcends the sum of your gear.
So if you can afford the price of admission to a new system, by all means go ahead and be part of the vanguard for mirrorless. But in the meantime, stop belittling what came before you. Being a measure-bating gear-head does not equate into being a good photographer.

My opinion, too: "There are no special intrinsic qualities that set mirrorless apart aside from maybe some design advantages." I arrived at my opinion by subtracting sell-jobs and sales hype from the literature promoting mirrorless cameras.

At the same time, I'm no stick-in-the-mud. I may one day transition to the mirrorless platform. For now, however, I see no compelling attraction to do so.

My DSLR cameras and lenses produce satisfying photographs.

A good photograph has the most pixels.

A good photographer has a mirrorless camera.
