Back in the day I used to go into a photo/ gizmo store on 42nd st. Their prices always seemed lower than if a you purchased from a normal non- New York City establishment. The reason is ...at least back then....is that you weren't getting all the normal accessories normally a associated with a purchase. Adapters were missing, power cords were missing. All you got was the bare item itself. Those would cost .....extra.

Ratings look extraordinarily good to me:

I don't know why they put the one stars first...they are a small minority. Click on sort by rating to read the good ones that build their high overall rating.

There are always a percentage that have unhappy experiences. Theirs seem less than many...certainly than Adorama.

They used to be very large. Where did you get the idea they were small?

I have no interest in them but feel we should present fairly for anyone.

Hey Doc .....

You're confusing 42nd street photo with "47th Street Photo"

I'm being fair ..... the op's asking what we think about the store ..... I'm calling it like I'm seeing it .....

the store is advertising this new Panasonic model for $100 less than the competition ..... $20.00 less wouldn't be ringing any bells ....

I see numerous negative comments describing this very scenario at this very store .....

You'll also see 42nd Street Photo mentioned here .....

This is an interesting one because they certainly show up with some terrible reviews.

Here's another one with the most reviews I have found (5,000)...and they look pretty good:

Puzzling. One thing I do know is that unhappy people are energized to spread their word but satisfied people not so much.

I'd give them a try again if they seemed to offer a good deal. I am pretty immune to people trying to sell me anything more than I am going for. Almost all outfits try that today.

Hey Doc ..... when folks are happy they may tell their 5 friends and I say "may" .....

take advantage of that same person and he'll want to tell the world

But there are many, many negatives that never find their way on to resellerratings.com because their existence is not universally known ..... after all it's not like it's Google

I have been researching bridge cameras and decided for my needs the Panasonic FZ200 would suit the bill.

In shopping price I found that while B&H and Andorama were advertising $599 42nd Street photo is advertising it on sale for $499 (their regular price is $549). It is listed as new with a USA warrantee.

It sounds too good to be true :hunf: ,
but it also sounds too good to pass up  .

Does anyone have personal experience with them good or bad? :|

I bought a couple of mail order items from them in the past. No problems.

I have bought more from 47th St Photo. They've been in business for probably 50 years, and they have good prices and service. The store itself is tiny, more of a long hall leading up to a small counter. They must have a large warehouse for their mail order business. I'm trying to remember where they're located. Oh yeah, on 47th Street, in Manhattan. :D

Hey Doc ..... 47th Street Photo was huge at one time, while vacationing in NYC summer of 85, I took a cab ride to their other store on Long Island to pick up a lens the NYC store didn't have in stock .....

The stores went belly up and closed. The 47th Street Photo in existence today is different ownership .....

Hi seeSAW,

I bought my D5100 from them for about $75.00 less than anywhere else I could find. I did have to go through their upsales pitch but said no to everything they wanted to sell. I declined a battery they wanted to sell me and thus the camera came without a battery/charger but I knew that up front. I got a charger and 3 batteries off eBay for much less than $75.00. Of course, you are always taking a chance but in my case the sale worked out. Take care & ...

One statistic I remember from a business course in college is that someone who is pleased with service will tell, on the average, 3 people. Someone who has a bad experience will tell 10.

My personal policy is to stay with either B&H or Adorama. Both are large and reputable outfits. They sell you what you want and you don't get the "up-sell" like so many reported on the review site. And you know you're getting a product with a US warranty. I believe both do offer "gray-market" items, but you know before hand what you're buying. Some people want to buy gray-market for various reasons, but they know what they're doing and exactly what they're getting.

Absent a large promotion (black Friday, for example), if the price difference is that great, then I'd be suspicious.

There is a 42nd Street Photo and a 47th Street Photo. Their reputations get confused. I've not done business with either.

I have done business with B&H and have enjoyed the experience.

My dad did business with 47th Street photo 30+ years ago and was pleased with the service. I think 42nd St Photo is the "other" one...

They have been around for quite a while, no personal experience, how about asking B&H or Adorama to meet the price, Bob.

My only concern: A "US Warranty" is quite different from a USA Factory Warranty." The folks that sell grey market stuff promote "US Warranties," but they are not from the factory. (Frequently from Mack, a fine company to my knowledge.) That said, I have purchased some grey market gear and it was fine, and never needed any warranty work at all.
I'm not saying do it or don't do it, just be aware of what you are getting, and ask specifically if it is a US <brand> Warranty. In some cases, grey market stuff has no factory support here in the US.
