Could use some info about recent experiences with Adorama and used lenses. Was happy with product and service a few years ago when I bought a new Canon S5IS, but now I'm looking at a Tamron used 90 macro lens. Described as being in excellent condition. Found some on line reviews of people who feel that used lenses were not accurately described. Sales agent also told me that 90 day warranty was to repair if necessary, but not replace if dissatisfied. Should I keep looking?

You're asking two questions here - I can only repeat what I've read and heard elsewhere, that Adorama (as well as B&H and KEH) are well-respected online and retail vendors who will probably stand behind their products, new or otherwise.

Secondly, do you WANT the Tammy 90? Have you had your hands on a new one, perhaps at a store? Might it be worth renting one to see if it does what you want?

Buying used glass can be tricky - I've bought via eBay and generally not been dissatisfied. But I did my due diligence, checked out the sellers, read the reviews, etc. I've never been skunked, to the best of my knowledge.

Jim,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have researched and decided that the 90 Tamron is definitely what I'll be getting. Only question really was customer service history with Adorama. Negative review and sales reps comment about "no returns, only repair" were what made me think it would be good to know more than my own experience in buying new from them.

I bought a used lens from Adorama and would do so again. It's possible that those complaining did not read the terms before purchasing.

I purchased a T1i along with a 18-55mm, as part of a kit last year from Adorama, aside from the gold sticker that said refurbised on both the camera and lens, I was totally satisfied with the purchase. But as the others have said read reviews and rent the lens if possible.

Dear Jim

You have a 6-month warranty on any used items rated V, D, E+, E or E- and 90-days warranty for any lower grades (which would be for repair). This includes a 30-day returns period, when you can return it for exchange or refund.

I hope this helps, but you are most welcome to email me directly if you need any other advice or help: Helen@adorama.com

I have personally never done business with Adorama. That said I have a Tamron 90 mm Macro 2.8. Great lens - well worth the price new or used.
I would go to KEH or B&H Photo......but you can't go wrong with that lens.

I buy virtually all of my lenses from Adorama or B&H and most are used. I found them to be very reliable. I don't buy on eBay, or an on line only store.

I bought a used nikon n-90 from adorama about 4 years ago and was very pleased with the equipment and the customer service. Having said that KEH.com puts a 6 month warranty on all their equipment and i found their prices were significantly lower than adoramas. In addition I have had trouble locating any used nikons on adorama's web site, sent them an email and never got a response. with keh i got their sales manager called me when i hadn't gotten an email response from them either. I knew Helen from adorama roamed the popphoto, com site but i didn't know she roamed here as well. maybe its like bettlejuice, say adorama 3 times in a row and she apeares.

Don't be concerned about the integrity of Adorama!! They are a stand-up company with one goal in mind . . . a satisfied customer. They are not paying me to say that. Their condition-rating system of used equipment is spot on. I just can't say enough good about these guys.

What is the difference in price between this one and a new one?

Are you shooting Canon??

I have a Tammy (much preferred over Sigma), but I bought the Canon 100mm 2.8 micro from B&H for about $550 brand new. It is an AMAZING lens!!! Would highly recommend it to anybody. If something happened to it, I would buy it again tommorrow!!
