After a night at the duck dive bars, this Great Horned found a secluded resting perch for the day. Hidden. First and second pictures are cropped and enlarged via Photoshop. Third is not shopped-enlarged pic of the tree branch thicket with a 500mm telephoto. Now, mentally zoom out to eye view and imagine scanning the trees for a bump on a branch that didn't grow naturally. I know the owl(s) hang in this section of woods so I am always scanning for what's unnatural, out of place. Found him this morning. I have another couple dozen pics to process to see if I have better ones.
Nice catch 1FTR! I like the natural look. Keep watching as you may be onto a February hatch! Great fun to watch them grow up in your favorite Great Horned Owl tree. It kept me sane last spring!

I'll look for the owlets. That'd be fun.
Keep your eyes open for a nest - they often take over a crows nest. Mom would be sitting on the nest. It would be pretty easy to find while the tree does not have leaves and it is obvious that you are a good spotter! Mom will stay with the nest until jr is ready to fledge.

Thanks. Nice pics! And no branches in the way.
