I have two computers, bob1 and bob2. Each has Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, etc loaded through the monthly subscription. Both are Dell computers running up to date Windows 10. Lightroom is open three or four times a week on bob1, less often on bob2.
Periodically, perhaps once a month, when attempting to open Lightroom, Adobe will inform me that I already have two instances of Lightroom running, and that I must close one before opening a third. It shows bob1 and bob2 active, plus "this one," which is actually bob1. I close "bob1"; and Adobe opens "this one," after which everything is fine..........until a month or so later. I see no indication that Lightroom is any the worse for this change; everything remains accessible.
Other than a minor aggravation, I'm just curious as to what might cause this.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing that causes this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Happens to me all the time, and it really is no big deal. THe Adobe verification server just checks to confirm these are authorized installations, and having you select one and log into the Creative Cloud is how it's done.
I have 3 LR & PS installs, and switch among them all the time.
I'm guessing when you "close" it on a PC, something is remaining active in the background. Maybe to facilitate startup next time you open it? Some programs do that.
Any chance you may have closed instances of it differently?
Does the computer get shut down between usages? That would certainly stop anything running in the background.
Notice if it happens more when a computer has NOT been shut down after recent use of the editor?

I generally close by "file; exit" I'll see if I occasionally just "X" out; not likely.
With rare exceptions for overnight backup, the computer is shut down nightly.
Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

I only have two installations; wondering why it thinks I'm trying a third.
It's not keeping me awake nights; just bugs me.
Thanks for your observations.

Is it possible that you disconnected from the internet before closing the program? In that case, Adobe may think the program is still actively running when in fact, it is not.

Check your task manager a few minutes after you close the editor.
See if anything for it is still running.

This is often the case with many programs that don't totally close...which may continue to run invisibly. The task manager is a very important app to learn.
This just goes to show that even computers get confused. I have LR on two computers, but I use it on just this one. I've never had a problem with Adobe in that regard.

That it says they are already running means it is not trying to verify it unless the message is misleading. Simply they have a bug when closing the program that it is not shutting down background processes. Its a bug and no sugar coating will change that. Adobe is famous for that like all vendors are and the cloud version is good for them as they'll quietly fix things like this and never acknowledge the issue to begin with. One day you won't notice but it will just stop happening.

I have LR/PS on my laptop and my desktop. The laptop gets shut down sometimes at night and sometimes not. The desktop gets shut down when I need to reboot (maybe once every other week). PS gets used on both. LR gets used mostly on the desktop but maybe on the laptop every other month. I have never had the problem you describe.
