Yes, download the free version of the Date Changer. I forget the limits, whether what fields it will update or won't run in batch, but you should get an idea of how / what it can do. Primarily, you'll be worried about the shooting date, but you can have all the dates updated together to the same date.

I went to my notes for EXIFTOOL, there's a 'global timeshift' command I've used in the past that updates the following:

File Modification Date/Time
File Access Date/Time
File Creation Date/Time
Zip Modify Date

Updated based on the feedback from running a test command.

It seems like most of my photos have had the creation date changed to a date that I apparently modified them. Will EXIFTOOL change them back to creation date? I only use Apple's PHOTOS for post processing. Thanks for the many tips you give. You pointed me to Canon's G9X Mark II and I love it.

I don't use crapple computers for anything - because I build my own - which are all micros_ _ t.
I use crapple iPhones because it links all my contact data to all of my other devices.
Hey - I'm an equal opportunity disparager. But none of the mainstream stuff runs on Linux :(
BUT - - in the PC world, there's a program = PhotoME (free - at least mine was years ago) that lets you see and edit any EXIF data. HIGHLY recommended.

If you are using Windows, it is very easy to change, add to, delete any of the exif data.
In File Explorer click on the folder your photos are in.
There will be a bar across the top, giving you a lot of possibilities for display.
Select "Details".
You will now have a list of the photos in that folder, as well as several columns with different headers.
Right-click on any of the headers, from the pop-up that shows then, you can select what columns you want to add or remove.
If that is not sufficient for your needs, from that same pop-up select "more" at the very bottom. The next pop-up should keep you out of mischief for a while, as there are so many options of items you can add to your tags. Some auto-fill, some you type in yourself.
I suggest you make a new folder, copy some photos to it, and play with this feature for a bit so you understand it and see what it actually does.
Have fun!

Thank you, Morning Star, for this information. I have worked with Microsoft and Pictures for years and did not know how to do this. I don't mean to highjack OP's question but I have a question. I see how to do this with individual folders within another folder, but is there anyway to do it at the higher folder level (Example: Folder 2020 includes folders for Christmas, Easter, Grandkids, Pets. The Grandkids folder includes Devin, Cody, and Henry. The Devin folder includes Swimming, Birthday, and School. Do I have to make changes on every folder or can I do it at the 2020 level?

If you mean the EXIF "Date Taken" and NOT the file date (see my previous post - https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/tpr?p=11934248&t=682623), your editor must have done it. Mine don't.

EXIFTOOL should be able to update the modified date to the file's create date. The hardest part about this processing is figuring the parameter string and then whether / how to run it in batch against multiple files.

I contacted the company and they responded this app only works on windows and NOT ON MAC COMPUTERS.

PH, I know this is an old post and you have been very helpful. I still have the basic question which is, How do I get the correct date taken if the date taken in exif data on an image is INCORRECT? I have tried various software that say they can find the date taken, no matter what. But they finally had to admit that they COULDN'T DO THAT!!!!!??????? Is there a way to retrieve the REAL date taken if unknown?

Thanks so much. Don

If the EXIF is wrong, then I doubt it.
