Very Good! We've done Chaco Canyon, Aztec Ruins, and Mesa Verdi, I'm amazed at the abilities of the Ancients specially Chaco Canyon.

Wonderful photos and post, Harry. Anasazi ruins are so interesting as one imagines how they lived. Thanks for the effort required.

Nice! You can carry or find enough water on these 2-3 day hikes (I'm guessing you mean round trip)?

I have spent as much as 10 days in the area and have had no problems with water

Although I'm far more interested in unknown, rarely visited ruins I must admit some of the most photogenic Anasazi ruins are just an easy dayhike to reach. That's true of all of these images although the last ruin is actually easier to reach by a short 2-3 day backpack than it is to as a dayhike (fairly technical, loose and steep as well as a route finding challenge).

LIKED your photos of the ruins but I DO HAVE a problem with the use of the ubiquitous term Anasazi. It seems if you don't now what to call it, call it Anasazi. They must have been the most wide spread of people anywhere at all times. Arizona, Utah, Colorado, everywhere.

Did you ever look up the meaning of Anasazi?

What I don't understand, people lived here for 100's of years. The ruins are sheltered from the element - so - why aren't their smoke stains above the ruins from 100'a of years of cooking & heating fires?

Yes that hike is a 2-3 day round trip depending on how fast you want to move. On ALL backpacking trips in canyon country you must find water everyday or else the loads get too heavy. Not at all a problem on this hike. Some hikes it can be a MAJOR problem.

Anasazi means Enemy ancestor in Navajo. The cultural appropriate term is Ancestral Puebloean but I figured most people on UHH would not recognize that term.

Actually almost all dwelling ruins do have charcoal on the roofs or the overhangs- you need to look for it. Most of those that don't were actually storage for grains.

In that area very little decays. You can find small corn cobs still with kernels of corn. One of my friends find a sandal made of grass that was very old. It is still there hidden

Great pix, and of my favorite area in the world. The processing of #4 is a bit "metallic" for my taste.
