This is the profile view of my preserved Earwig Bug that I staged for a focus stacking session using my now goto method of diffused constant illumination.

You have the method down to a "t". Excellent capture(s) and rendering as usual. Please keep on sharing the great work.

The only problem that I see with your work, Gary, is that maybe we should not be able to see what some of these creatures look like (LOL).

True or false: Can earwigs fly? Great shot in either case.

Thanks, UTMike. I tend to agree with you that there are some things that are better left unseen. On the other hand, I have to look at it first to tell if it is one of them....and then I've seen it!

Very good shots of a terribly ugly bug that scared me to death as a child while living in Biloxi, Mississippi.

My preserved Earwig Bug is a male which can be identified by the curved rear "pinchers" for the females are straight. They do have two pairs of wings on their body, the forewings and the hindwings. Several insects have forewings that they tuck their hindwings under which helps protect them for they are quite fragile. Because they tuck them away it may appear as though they don't have any....yet they do.

In fact they can fly....although not for long distances and mostly fly as a defensive move.
