In today's digital world, picture taking is so much easier than when I started taking photos with the 35mm format. I would start taking photos of a wide variety of subjects. Then look at what is good better and best.

One other bit of advice is always take your camera with you. You never know when that once in a life time shot will come from. Good luck.

If you sincerely have a passion for photography, then you will find a way. You have wonderful subjects right at your fingertips...your children! Don't ever give up on a dream, or let one pass you by.

Check out Kelbytraining.com for $25 a month you can watch tons of videos that are very well done. The nice thing about videos is you can stop and replay until you get it. I recently read an article about a famous fashion photographer in the Netherlands. Three years ago she knew nothing about photography and her funds were limited. What was her secret to success? She looked at everything on the internet that was free. Good Luck

Im a complete amateur when it comes to photography. I have never taken any classes to learn about lighting or even how to use my camera manually. I have really just been practicing all my shots manually to learn. I would love to fit some schooling in to learn as much as I can so I can become a better photographer. I love photography and would one day like for my passion to become a business. Is there anyone who can give me some insight as to where the best photography schools are or how I can go about learning in any way. Keep in mind right now I am a nursing student with an active duty military husband and two daughters under the age of 3. But I swear I have some room for my passion. Thanks for any and all advice!

You can go to my web-site www.photoimpressionsbyvictor.com and just click the Better Photo Banner. That will take you to their on-line classroom schedule. (I get credit for any "clicks" on their banner.)

You can also learn a lot just by going to the library and reading the books that are available on digital photography. The best part; its free and you can do it on your schedule.

This interesting Web site helps you learn the operational aspects of a DSLR without a camera:

The SLR Camera Simulator: http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator.html

This Web site will explain ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, and their relation to one another:

http://www.cameraporn.net/2007/12/24/aperture-iso-and-shutter-speed-the-good-kind-of-threesome/

In general, this veteran Web site offers a variety of sound photography information:

Check out the Learning tab for photography instruction.

Thank you very much. I am glad at least one person replied lol. Again thanks for that info. I have heard of them before and I think I will really look into that. :)

I started out a few years ago knowing absolutely nothing about photography. Someone had bought me a camera.... and now what do I do?? I read books, I experimented with it, and here I am today working for a beautiful magazine. I ended up doing food photography and gift shop photography. Still I enjoy going out there and photographing scenery and wild life. It has been such an adventure to me. You will learn either by taking classes or just taking the time to learn about it yourself. This forum helps a lot and I feel that we never stop learning. Zeena www.tenaphoto.com

Go to the Ken Rockwell site. He has all kinds of instructions on both taking pictures and equipment. After awhile you will not agree with him on everything but that is when you getting it. Just a personel gripe. I hate it when someone says that an amature is not a good photog. Amature comes from the Latin word Amo and means you do it because you love it. Some pros have one lighting set up and take the same shot day after day and know very little about photography while many amature are experts in what they do. - Dave

Rockwell tells it like it is. Skip the photo classes.
