Very interesting. I hope they can preserve it. I've seen several old country churches that had the two doors instead of one. That's intriguing to me. Do you know why they had two doors? (Other than the fact that they have two aisles?)

The custom of the era was that women and children entered and exited thru one door while men used the other. Many old churches, like this one, have divided center pews to maintain that segregation during the worship service. Some faiths maintain that segregation during worship to this day. Thanks for your interest.

Very nice set, and #2 and 4 have my vote for most interesting and evocative. The interior shots are especially interesting to me... you can almost hear the hymns being belted out on Sunday morning!

Interesting. We never practiced that and I've frankly never heard of it before. Again, interesting!

I’ve never practiced it either. When my wife and I enter our church she goes in first as I hold the door...and I’m glad to do it This double door thing seems to have been the custom till the late 1800’s. I’m not aware of any churches being built like that anymore. I don’t know this first hand, but understand that Quakers continue to segregate women seated one side men the other during service.
