I have a Nikon D5300 and have been looking for a telephoto lens, Found this on market place and was wondering, knowing if I make this intire purchase, would the lens be compatable and worth the purchase.
The camera Body is a D90 which is now retired, but when I googled it was quite a expensive body. So I quess what I am asking in the round about way is, Does this look like a good deal. They are asking 200.00.
Nikon D90 camera with (1) 18-105 mm lens f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikon Zoom Lenslt ; (1) 59 mm lens; (1) 300 mm lens; (1) TT560 Speedlite external flash; (1) carrying case; cleaning kit; pelican memory cardholder. Battery and charger. Price is firm. The lens is a GEd VR lens too, a higher more costly one too to help with the reduction of vibration.
Looks like just the lenses are well worth the $200. The D90 would be like a bonus body, which is heavier than the D5300, but still a great camera. The lenses are definitely compatible. IF you've got the $200, go for it!
You have a industry-standard 24MP camera in your D5300. If interested in the 18-105 VR lens, you can buy them used from KEH for less than $100, that includes a return policy and limited warranty. No amount of money will "sweeten the deal" for a 12MP camera from 2008. The Neewer TT560 is a 3rd party flash. Buy a new one if you want an external speedlight flash. They're used for less than $50, presenting their relative cheapness.
Even though I still have a seldom used D90 and 18-105 and I think it's a great outfit, I have to go 100% with CHG CANON's math. 24 MP is an unquestioned advantage in some circumstances.
The listing is poorly worded and quite lacking if info. Personally it would not have intrigued me enough to bring it before the forum. It’s the sort of thing that I just ignore.
The ad itself depicts a seller I wouldn’t care to deal with. Not any problem of honesty, just not having it all together, photographically and otherwise.
I focused on the 18-105 VR lens, one I've used and found very useful for a DX camera. If our OP was more interest in the assumed 70-300, a better play is to find used copy of the final AF-S FX version. A firmware update can be applied to the D5300 to allow use of the newest AF-P version of the 70-300 (either the AF-P FX or DX versions).
New: Nikon 70-300mm VR AF-P f/4.5-6.3 DX ED (a DX lens)
Old: Nikon 70-300mm VR AF-S f/4.5-5.6 (a FX lens)

You haven't said what these lenses are, but do know that the Nikkor "D" type lenses (if indeed they are D type) will NOT autofocus on any of the Nikon 5000 series cameras, while they will on the D90. I'm guessing the 59mm is a typo, more likely a 50mm? I don't think I've ever heard of a 59mm prime.

There are a number of Nikkors with the D designation that WILL autofocus with the OP’s camera.

I agree with you. I look at it as a possible scam. Just my opinion
Go for the 18-105 mm lens. It is great. But, shop around for a better price.

Exactly true. Very exact and limited.
But none of the so-called “D type” oldies would work, nor would any of the nearly identical “pre-D” AF lenses.
One reasonable approach is to just avoid lenses with f/stop rings ... and pay no mind to what sellers name their lenses.

Seems like a good deal just for the lenses depending on condition. Which brand and model for the 300mm lens there are many variations just for Nikon. Check for lens fungus and return policy. If the 300mm is the older "screw drive" lens with no built in motor won't work with the D5300 for AF. D90 would be a bonus back up body.

I agree with the others. Stay away from this deal.

Wrong. Any AF-I or AF-S Nikkor will autofocus on the OP's camera, whether or not the lens has a "D" designation.
