I have an older (probably 15 years of so) 4490 and a chance to get a brand new v370. Which do you think is the better?
I have a 4490, I think it was one of the best scanners ever made. I keep it in a sealed bag and only start it up when I need to copy important photos. I don't know anything about the V370. I find most new scanners of which I have had 3, can't compare to the 4490.
Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback.
The only problem with your 4490 is Epson won't write new software to use it with 64 bit OS's like Mac Catalina or Big Sur. Skip the V370 and invest in new scanning software, either Silverfast or Viewscan to better drive your current scanner. Note if you are using Windows 10 you will see better results with the new software over Epson Scan.
I also have a 4490 scanner and have wondered if I am missing anything that I would gain by replacing it with a V600. The newer version has an LED light, so warms up faster. Anythung else?

My brother now has my 4490 and he's happy as a clam. I wanted to move up and get something that would last 'til I'm outta here, so sprung for the expensive v850...it's as advertised, but I'll be dammed if I can tell the difference in the scans themselves!
I think I'm going to stick with the 4490. Everything I hear about it is very positive. Thanks for all the comments.
I have the Epson 4490 also and have NEVER had a problem with it. I did just upgrade my iMac to the Catalina operating system which is 64 bit, so the 4490 no longer worked until I purchased VueScan software and now the 4490 works again just fine. Anyone else moving from 32 bit to 64 bit will find VueScan solves any problem.

I too have the 4490 scanner; it was the best scanner by far, and I had it serviced a while back- I haven't used it for while, but I know it is in first rate condition if I wan't it.
