Not sure I’m describing this right but I’ll give it a try. On my D7200, when I release the button to lock-in focus and then recompose before pressing the shutter, does the exposure stay set on the point in time before I recomposed and released the BBF button or does it expose for the recomposed scene when I press the shutter button? Another way to look at it is whether or not the AF-AE BBF button also locks in exposure.
I'm not familiar with the D7200, so maybe I shouldn't comment. I have my D5300 set up for back-button focus. All it does is take the focus function off the shutter button. Metering activation remains with the shutter button and half-press locks the exposure.
