I have a Novatron 440 lighting system; three strobe heads, three light stands and umbrella reflectors and power supply, all in good working order. Is this worth selling or should I keep it?

Worth keeping, but if you want to sell it let me know what you are asking. I wouldn't mind having it. Thanks.

Plastic. Non fan cooled . Not worth very much . Maybe $100 tops . So keep it if you like it .

This looks like a great lighting system. I’m not a professional so I see no reason to buy a set up like this. If you have a studio and are content with it, keep it. Even if there is a better system, why buy it if this works.

Why buy an ice cold cup of HOT chocolate on a cold winter day.

If you want to keep it, keep it. If you want to sell it, sell it.

If I were a professional with a studio I might buy/keep it. But I use mostly ambient light. One hogger responded to my post that I claimed I hate flash and lighting. That is true because I don’t know how to use it. I’ve got to find a good book on lighting and flash photography.

I use Novatrons. They are workhorses, old but very reliable. The only difference between them and newer lighting is that you need to know where and how to set the lights, and you will definitely need a flash meter so you will know what f-stop and shutter you want. I've used for years, and bought used from my ex boss that owned a photo studio. ( I added dark umbrellas and a soft box to my set. A 4th light head is also very handy.)

A real workhorse, brute power. I bought mine new for $700 many years ago. Works well but very little adjustment options: full or half power. Must use flash light meter to set up accurately. I would keep it.

That was my first studio lighting system and it worked but and big but check the firing voltage most new cameras use reference voltage and that could fry a newer camera add to that all the new stuff with on camera instant control additional no wires
So it’s not worth much
It’s more of a fun thing

These old cables flash systems worked well. I have a set up similar to yours but with only two heads. I think it is a Novatron, a friend of mine has a Norman. Seems everyone wants the wireless self contained modern systems now. Little resale value. A few years ago my pal and I both tried to give them away and we had no takers. I figure now I'll keep it.

But if you are using it with a digital camera use a wireless trigger and you don't need a flash meter as you can take test shots. For film yes, you need meter.

I still have the set I bought in the early 70's and they still work great. You do have to know how to set up and do need a flash meter but they are very dependable. The firing voltage is a definite concern but a Wein Hot shoe Safe Sync will take care of that problem. I still like my old Sunpack flash and use the same Sync for it also. Used properly you have complete control of your lighting every time and know exactly what you are getting. That was necessary back in film days. You could not a shoot dozens of exposures on most jobs: just not cost effective.

Not too long ago, I sold the 2 head version of your system for $75. They are a cheep solution for someone that wants to experiment/learn studio lighting. For traveling to a location shoot, Yongnuo or Godox set up for remote are much more convenient and will actually put out more light.

I have a Novatron 1600 outfit for sale. I was used very little. It will come with a flash meter and a flash trigger. I checked with the Novatron Company and they stated that the PC cord trigger was 12volt and OK for most modern cameras. I'm asking $350
