Just wandering.
Got my Nikon D500 when first came out. Around 5 or 6 years ago. Simply wonderful. No issues in any way. Do you think there should be a need to send it back to Nikon for a cleaning and just check out. All Firmware is up to date. Thanks for your comments and response.

I think you will get many answers to send it in for a CLA, cleaning lubrication and adjustment while others will tell you if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I am one of those who has never sent my Nikon or any other camera to be CLA'd and have never had a problem with any of them.
I saw your title and wondered where you were wandering to. Hopefully your cameras are all in good shape and you will wander to a place to take magnificent photographs. Have a Happy New Year.

So far, I haven't had to send my 4 dslr bodies (D850, D500, D800, D7200) to Nikon for anything. The only maintenance I've had to do is keeping them clean and an occasional sensor cleaning. I go by the philosophy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
I agree if it ain't broke don't fix it. Only thing I have ever done was an occasional blower and maybe a sensor wipe. I also have the D500, and a few others as well. I actually didnt realize that its been that long since the d500 has been out on the market!
I more from the camp, if it ain’t broke don’t ship it to who knows where to be opened and worked on by some stranger, followed by shipping it back to be thrown and bounced around by another stranger who doesn’t care about your camera.
Chances are if nothing was wrong with it before, there might be afterward.

If it's not broken, don't fix it. There is no need to send your D500 in for anything. You are fine.
Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Spring of 2016, It hit the store shelves 2 weeks after I purchased the D810 which was introduced about 2 years earlier. Time flies. Never sent my camera in for service. Only about 5300 clicks.
Rather than sending it back to Nikon, take it to Service Photo on Falls Road to have them take a look at it. They are an authorized Nikon dealer.
Anytime you feel you're just wandering and not get to where you want to go, find a map.
Now, if you're wondering about something, you're at the right address here...
Sorry, just couldn't resist! (Blame this silliness on covid and being cooped up at home too long).
I am in the same situation as you. I just have my sensor cleaned by a professional repair shop here in Houston, TX about once a year. When I do it myself, I never get it as clean as it needs to be.

I have always sent in my most used bodies and lenses for CLA, and each time I do they come back better. Things don't always go catastrophically wrong. Often, it is the subtle, insidious things that creep into daily use that cause things to slowly deteriorate. Sensor, mirror and focusing screen dirt are obvious things, but dirt inside lenses shutter speed accuracy, AF lens function, auto aperture function etc are all things that are checked during a CLA.
On average, 2 to 3 yrs for most of my gear, but heavily used gear (50K shutter actuations or more per year) will go in more frequently. It's nice to have gear that performs at or near its new out of the box condition.

I think that if you take care of your cameras and treat them like very expensive tools, you won't have any issues with them.

👍👍 I’m in the same camp for the same reasons
