I’m a lefty. Never gave camera use a thought. When I was a youngster, my grandad made me me pound nails right handed. He was a carpenter and said when I grew up and had my own house I’d need to be able to use some tools right handed. He was right. Wise advice.

I can't see how a hammer is a tool that would be a problem for a left-hander.

I have some great left handed screw drivers and sockets. I have no problem with them. Works well either hand.

Left-handed all the way. Looking at "right-handed" things, always seems back a$$wards. But, in 73 years, I've learned to adapt. Add to that, that I'm right-eye dominant, and rifle/pistol shooting should have been a challenge. I shoot trap proficiently right-handed; pistol and rifle shooting the same way.

I had cataract surgery in 2013, and my remaining correction makes me left-eye dominant, but I now use camera viewfinders left-eyed. Shooting however, requires my left shooting glasses to be taped over with translucent tape.

Fun, these days.

I'm left-handed, and I don't find right-handed cameras awkward at all. Life-long left-handed people learn to adapt to a predominantly right-handed world early on in life. For me, handling a left-handed camera right now would certainly be a very awkward, unfamiliar experience. At least in the beginning.

He was referring to working on inside corners in that moment.

I remember there was a strong initiative in grammar schools to have leftys right handed. That didn’t go over very well.

I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Very noticeable when you see a tight shot of me pistol shooting.

I'm right-handed but left-eyed and use the left eye to peer thru the viewfinder. It just never dawned on me 55 years ago when I got my first Nikon that people did it differently. Now I get the live view screen a bit messed up with nose oils but for me it's natural. I will say, however, that it complicates BBF focusing just a little. Hope everyone is having a great New Year so far.

For me as a lefty videographer it is advantageous, because the right hand holds the camera while the left does focus, aperture and switches and knobs.

More important is whether one is right or left eyed-which is dominant. I am left handed but right eyed, so perfect for photography, especially manual focus.

I was born left-handed, but my parents changed me over. Since then, everything learned, I do right-handed, and everything natural, left - for instance pitching hay when I was on the farm. I always switch-hit in baseball; I batted for a better average left, but could hit the ball with more power right. In basketball, I shoot outside shots predominantly right-handed, but taught myself to ball-handle equally well left-handed, as that's very important, so as not to be predictable. I never have had a problem in anything with handedness, and am reasonably ambidextrous!

Don't reply/reveal if you know the answer. Let others contemplate.

What popular sport has the rule that it MUST be played right-handed? And this rule makes perfect sense!

Agree with the folks that the issue is more left-eye/right-eye dominance. This makes much difference as it puts my nose into the rear right camera controls when using the viewfinder. Have learned to keep the lock on the controls lest my nose move the focus point on my D7200!

I am a natural lefty, but don’t find any other major issues with photography. Now, give me a right hand pair of scissors, and watch out! My mother was a natural lefty but taught in the 1930s so she was “forced” to convert to right handed for writing, painted left handed.

No & easily. Personally I never heard of a left/right eyed camera, just use the eye which is dominate. I'm Lefty cause I wright lefty, however I happen to be ambidextrous. I actually do more detailed work with my right hand. I swing a bat/golf club righty, kick a ball righty If I were hanging from something I would trust my right hand over my left. Whether you are right or left eye dominate...I don't think it has anything to do with being left or right handed. You use the eye that is dominate to focus, as far as the buttons, you take what the manufacture gives and learn to use it. One way to test which eye is dominate, try the link below.

BTW, I'm Right eye dominate as a lefty.

If the camera is inverted, then the shutter button is pressed by the left thumb. You will note that the thumb is much more independent than the fingers which tend to affect the whole hand wrist "machine." Right or left-handed using the left thumb is the better way. Try it before thinking it crazy.

Count me in as one of those right handed, left eye dominant kids. So was Art Kane. I remember reading once that he thought it was a minor inconvenience only because he had to take the camera from his eye to advance the film (how true) but then he had the opportunity to recompose his image again so all was well.
