A rather confusing meme if you know that it was the Democrats who wanted $2,000 all along. Also, maybe you missed this today from McConnell? You know who he is, right?

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rejected a bill to increase direct payments to $2,000, likely closing the door on any pathway to passage before the end of the Congress this weekend.

Probably true, because they don't understand the reality of the situation. That would include many Trumpettes on here.

You can learn from history. Historically, Republican administrations have raised the National Debt and Democrats have reduced it.
But please, don't let the facts get in the way of your beliefs. That would be so un-republican of you.

a background article(also attached as a pdf): Push for Bigger Stimulus Checks...

There is also concern that the checks would also go go those making up to $350,000 per year and have not be affected financially by the pandemic.

Not taking sides, just that this is a very sticky wicket.

It clearly shows that a Congressional Bill frequently has slop attached that has nothing to do with the main thrust of the legislation.

If the Democrats wanted this all along why didn't they pass the $2T proposal Trump put forward before the election?

Good post. The Dems didn't want to pass $2,000 for the American people all along or they would have passed the Trump proposal before the election. Convenient amnesia.

Of course they didn't push it before the election it would have cost them votes. A pretty sound strategy just like the Republicans played down the. Covid death toll. Its called tactics. I thought you were supposed to be smart.

Democrats not only pushed a larger amount for months, the House actually passed a bill in May. It was the McConnell-owned Senate that denied.

Democrats ended up compromising, as did Republicans (supposedly) so that something would be passed before the end of the year.

From Dec 3 news:
Democratic leaders in Congress threw their support behind a $908 billion compromise bill proposed by a bipartisan group of moderate senators, turning up the pressure on Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, to bring a stimulus bill to the floor.

The proposal is significantly smaller than the $3 trillion bill passed by the House in May and would not include nearly as much funding for state and local governments. It also wouldn’t include another round of direct cash payments to Americans.

But McConnell has said he would oppose spending as much as this bill calls for; Republicans have proposed something about half its size.

Mitch would have approved it if it included a bonus for the top 1%.
