I am thinking about buying this lens. Does anyone here have it? What do you think about it?
I have two of the 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lenses. It's an excellent lens. Definitely buy it. Nikon came out with the 16-80mm f/2.8-4 lens after it but they lowered the quality. I had purchased the new 16-80mm f/2.8-4 lens but ended up returning it. It's a $500 to $600 lens that sells for over $1000. The build quality of the newer lens is not as good and they put a lower quality and noisy focusing motor in the newer lens.
This is a case where the original lens is better than its replacement because of cost cutting measures.
Before the pandemic I was in a cruise through the western Caribbean. I noticed that the photographers of the ship were using the Nikon 16-85 lens. The images were of excellent quality.

Also consider the 16-80 mm lens. A little less reach, but wider apertures (2.8-4 vs 3.5-5.6). I found that was significant as I travelled in Europe. I found many photo ops inside where that extra aperture made a difference. But the 16-80 lens is significantly more expensive, and I understand limited budgets.
I have had this lens for ages. Great lens. My walk about choice.
Of the ten or so lenses I own (for Nikons), the 16-85 is the one I use most. It's a fine lens.
When I was shooting Nikon that was my favorite lens. Great image quality. On a six week National parks tour, it was the lens I used 95% of the time even though I had brought my whole kit.
Thank you for all of your replies. I'll order it right away.

I bought this lens a good wile back, and love it. It's my go to lens, 90% of the time. Works great with BBF. Thought it was a cheep lens, but after some comparison to some others, it's a quality tough lens that will stand up quite well. BUY IT! You won't be disappointed.
