Thinking about getting this lens: Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR Lens

Would like any feed back from those who have one and see some photos taken with it......

How would you compare it to the Nikon 200-500?

I have the top listed lens. It's my favorite of the 2 lenses I have, although the 18-55 is sharper. My beef with the 55-200 is that it loses sharpness as it approaches the 200 range.
I do not think the 200-500 can be compared to a 200-500. Two different beasts. I can say I sure wish I had a 200-500!
I must have clicked something wrong because I do not see a way to attach a photo to this reply. Sorry.

I have the 500pf and just sold my 200 - 500. Aside from a 2 pound plus weight difference, the 500pf produces sharp images of great quality and is lighter. I use the lens on both D 500 and D 850.
I liked the 200-500 but the weight was becoming an issue as I primarily hand hold for BIF and wildlife. It’s a good lens and performs well but the 500 is better glass, much more expensive and lighter. The down side if it can be considered such is you need to move your feet more because you have lost the telephoto capability.
I love the 500 prime and the images I get. If you do wildlife and BIF it’s wonderful. I can send some images when near my computer and not my phone.

check Steve Perry's Back Country Gallery. He compared the 200-500 and the 500 https://backcountrygallery.com/nikon-200-500-vs-300pf-review-and-comparison/

Besides the weight difference (mentioned above), there is a significant cost difference in favor of the zoom (as well as increased versatility). I love the zoom lens, and it's a good muscle builder.

The ONLY thing you can fault on the 500mm PF lens is that it does not zoom. Other than that its pretty much perfect.

You might want to re-read the OP, your reply makes no sense as it has no relevance at all to the question posed.

This is a comparison of the 200-500 and the 300 PF....not the 500.

True!

The video I just watched, also by Steve Perry, is about testing the 500mm pf. As Steve often does he compares the lens being tested with other lenses. In this video he compares the 500pf to the 300pf and the 200 - 500mm.

This would be a good video for the OP and anyone else interested in these lenses. About 30 minuyes.

Both images are with the D500 and 500pf lens at no less than 100+feet distance. I have to continue looking for images done with the D850 and the 500pf.
Good luck with your decision. I believe there is a rebate available on the lens now. No rebate when I purchased and I waited almost 5 months for delivery. It is a great lens.

Umm, Appy your comments do not make sense. Not sure what you are asking or advocating.
