Köln, Germany – the Cathedral, Part 3 (the Stained-glass Windows)
I have visited Köln (Cologne) in Germany several times over the years, and the cathedral there, too. Since I seem to specialize in church sets, and I found I’d not yet done one on the Köln Cathedral, I decided to do one now. The photos here are from different tours – specific information about when, etc. can be found by clicking on a photo, which will take you to the Flickr page for it. Part 1 is of the exterior and views from a trip up to above the ceiling (a rare event provided by the Orgelbau Klais Bonn company during their renovation of the Main Organ). Part 2 is of the church interior. Part 3 is of the stained-glass windows.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked them.
David, you are a master. I have been there several times over the years attending Photokina. How did you get permission to get inside the ceiling.
Spectacular imàges.

Don, thanks for the nice comments. A small group from my church was visiting the Orgelbau Klais Bonn organ builders checking them out for a potential purchase (we did buy theirs), and the company was at that time (2001) doing a refurbishment of the Transept Organ in the cathedral, which was originally built by Klais (and so was the Nave Organ). The firm was storing some of the organ pipes above the ceiling while they were working on the organ, and the owner of the firm took our group up there as part of our visit. I will confess that it was pretty scary--that lift went up 200 feet and the narrow walkway between it and the opening in the roof was very open (it did have a rail). The view from up there was spectacular, though.
I'm curious. The number of views of this set is substantially fewer than for the other 2 sets of this church. Does that mean that people aren't much interested in the windows?
Potential answer: Sets 1 and 2 were featured in the Daily Digest, but Set 3 was not. That may be why fewer views, even though all 3 sets linked to the others. This suggests that linking doesn't do much.
Very nice work on the windows David!

Thanks, Joe! I didn't make the windows, just took pictures of them. ;)
