Is there any machine out there that will allow you to record streaming TV for later playback.?
With cable TV at least one can record and play back later ff thru the commercials.
I have not found anything comparable for Streaming TV yet

The best commercial that's out right now is the hearing aid commercial in which the daughter is whispering to her husband, "Did you bring the condoms?" Guess it wasn't that good cause I can't remember the name of the company. LOL

Shoot! I must have FF through that one.

Not only that but they are louder than the program and some ads lie. I thought both of those things used to be illegal. What happened to the FCC rules and enforcement?

Our TV watching tends to be Hallmark movies, which we record before watching. They are all scheduled for 2 hours on cable, but the actual movie length is never more than 85-90 minutes. (For a couple of days around Christmas they ran movies with no commercial product breaks, just occasional teasers/trailers for other Hallmark shows - those movies ran in 90 minute blocks on the two channels.)

Recorded shows are stored in the cloud, they pixellate badly if you fast-forward rapidly, and fast forward doesn't stop reliably, so what I do is Pause a movie when a commercial starts and then hit the fast forward button. On our cable system this steps the movie resume point forward in 30 second increments (but without the image changing, so I have to guess when the commercial is over.)

I've learned that for the first 1/4 to 1/3 of a 2 hour movie block the commercial breaks are about 4 minutes long (8 clicks of the FF button), in the middle they're about 4 1/2 minutes long, and in the last 1/4 or so of the time slot they're 5 minutes long. (It's not precise, but if you skip ahead 4 minutes near the end of a movie you're going to get a LOT of commercials before the movie comes back on - some of 'em seem to be only 15 seconds long.) This has been a consistent pattern on the two Hallmark channels for the many months since I figured out how to manage playback this way. Maybe this is unique to their channels, but I'd bet it's common on other commercial channels as well.

Watch the last 15 minutes each night of ABC News with David Muir. You see how bad it is.

I have noticed that this is one of the worst for commercials. I to record everything and fast forward thru the commercials. I use the button that jumps ahead 30 seconds. But on this show you can miss segments of news because one or two segments are shorter than 30 seconds. What you get is about 3 minutes of commercials, 20 seconds of news, and right back to another 3 minutes of commercials. I am on the edge of not watching this program at all. I probably will stop after January 20th.
I want to agree with all of you that are frustrated by paying so much to get programming only to have way, way to many commercials. Thank goodness for DVR and the hopper.

What I find most insulting is canned laughter. I don't watch shows that have it yet when I flip by one and watch it for a few seconds, they're not funny. Without being told when to laugh or "this is funny, laugh" the program would (is) be dull as watching paint dry.

yeah, this is when you are supposed to laugh....i don't watch the sit-coms....
... they were also running canned crowd noise for sport games...

They try to sell based on triggering your feelings.

Yeah, they're triggering my feelings... like getting angry. I' so fed up with gold & silver commercials, "Hi, I'm William Devane", Mike with "My Pillow". I wish the companies marketing group would learn we get tired of the same commercial repeated over and over. If they want ot have ltos of commercials at least give them variety.

CNN is one of the worst. Sometimes it is hard for me to watch them because of all the long commercials. I also have Hulu and they are fighting with my local ABC network about money and aren't carry it. That dispute has been going on for months. I watch a lot of recorded movies to escape the commercial. If someone could invent a device that would block commercials, they could make a million.

I totally agree, the length, repetitiveness, of these commercials are overwhelming. I haven’t purchased a single item that I see on these poorly made and uncreative time consuming commercials. They have become even worse by focusing the majority of the add on specific people and their lifestyle. I’m fine with diversity, but they have made a complete swing in an opposite direction.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas

Commercials do come in handy though -
· Go to the bathroom
· get a drink
· make a sammich
· get a snack
· check on the crock pot
· get the mail
· take the dog out

And all of that is during ONE commercial break.

At least, during sports, commercials have to be limited by time outs, injuries etc.

Wrong.. Having gone to a number of collage football games the time outs etc. are controlled by the networks. A so called 30 second time out at the game is more like 3 or 4 minutes. A game that should take about an hour and a half counting half time takes closer to 3 and a half by the time the TV time outs are added. If you notice there is often at least 4 or 5 commercials when the ball changes hands, following a score, touchdown, field goal or whatever there are even more. I have been recording live games and then going back and watching them later fast forwarding through the commercials. If I start watching between and hour and an hour and a half into the game I get to watch the last quarter or more of the game live so it's not spoiled by knowing the outcome.

While I agree that this is their marketing strategy, how is pissing me off helping them sell anything? Geese, I'm partially disabled as it is and we are trying to stay home as much as possible due to the Covid restrictions. Therefore, TV is now our primary recreational activity recently and I can't even watch a movie without repeated and long lasting interruptions. It really is way beyond annoying for me!

We have been recording 90% of the programs we watch on TV with the exception of sports. Happy New Year to all.

I have been trying not to miss the commercial with the young lady on the Light Coors commercial. She makes me feel young again.

You are so right. Their is no control of taste, fair timing and hyperactive nonsense that makes young
people think they are a circus. Some commercials are good but others like the insurance commercial think progress with a black gentlemen half man and half motorscyle.
The influence this has on our society is very bad in my mind. I worked in advertising had my
own businesses, last a production business doing National sales show and content marketing video.
And the cursing and jokes are over the top awful. The cursing in Washington is out of control.
We pay a little as possible to have netflix and PBS, Amazon Prime to gert away from ads.
My wife watches PBS and etc almost all the time because it is classy and the English
shows are very good and fun. And historic series.
I spent time in many stations some times editing their and they were great places with
people that a lot of talent and engineering skills. Stay safe. Happy New Year.
