Jerry, for the life of me, I can't see why anyone would chase a person who was in possession of a chainsaw.

I think everyone has missed the big story here. According to the article, the chainsaw wielding intruder was a 26 year old man named Alice Sweet. Clearly driven insane by his parents choice in naming him.

Such is what happens due to bad grammar: "A McD's employee was chased by a man with a chainsaw, who was arrested by the police." NOT the way it was written in the paper.
