Christmas really sucked for me this year.

I gave up Christmas Day to go unload and distribute ventilators for all the sick COVID patients who are not having a nice Christmas or perhaps their last one. My family stayed home without me. They loved me even more when I returned from a long day and worn out. Christmas time is for families and sharing; or showing your family how to share what is important with humanity. I have forgone my train and decorations this year. Instead trying to replace someone's coal with oxygen so they can see next Christmas. At least Santa knows I have been good. Maybe a little extra in the karma bank? My camera bag sits idle. :(

It gets worse. We do have a 2nd, much smaller tree with lights. Sadly, it too is full of ornaments - the Hallmark kind that requires batteries.

I will just have to wait until next year. I will purposely get a late start; wait for my wife to fall asleep before the job is finished; then, hang my little trains. I will make sure that I have some hooks for them. Lol.

Most of the ornaments require to be plugged into an existing light bulb. One year I added a separate string of lights just for those ornaments. I will probably go back to putting those ornaments on the tree maybe 20 years from now. It is still difficult now.

You could hang a wreath over a doorway to a living room and attach a few ornaments to the wreath. A photograph of the two of you kissing under the wreath is a nice substitute for mistletoe.

I feel for you, Tom, Christmas was so bad for me that I would have been happy if Santa had given me a chunk of coal.

Lucky you should mention 250 ornaments. That is how many ornaments we put on our tree last year.beware of replacing light bulbs on your tree.i replaced almost 200 bulbs on our 9 1/2 ft tree this year.after we put it all together for a few hours it looked great for being 15+ years old.after a few hours my wife asked me to unplug it and retreat to our bedroom.i almost burned my hand cause the plug was so hot.this tree has 3 sections all connected to 1 plug.i realized that the bulbs i replaced were a little higher in wattage and were drawing way more amps than that one plug coming from the tree could handle.i separated every one of the 3 sections of the tree into a small extension cord for each section thus running less amps through the one cord the tree came with.that cleared my problem.

I got ya beat. My tree has 380 nutcracker ornaments on it. I have a room full of nutcrackers also. (450+) and not cheap ones from the Far East.

There is light at the end of the 2020 tunnel! Sorry for all those who have lost loved ones this year. We too lost the patriarch sister of 8 children after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. We had a great Christmas, enjoyed and great meal and talked about all the great memories of Christmas' past. Stay strong, be safe and stay healthy.

My tree only has lights--it's a pre-lit artificial tree. When I got indoor cats I stopped putting ornaments on the tree because they attracted the cats. Prior to that I had real trees with hand-strung lights and ornaments. I've still got one ornament that had been on my first Christmas tree more than 80 years ago.

I am so sorry to learn of your sister’s passing. You could have a park bench placed nearby and have it dedicated to her.
This was a tough year for all of us, but we are a resilient bunch!

Thanks for the well wishes. Great thought about the bench. We are resilient and will kick butt in 2021!

Don't feel like the lone ranger.my wife has 60 plastic containers full of xmas ornaments and all we put out this year were about 10 of her containers.she has more ornaments than walmart.if the grandkids were not home schooling cause of the pandemic she would have made me put together her xmas village which consists of 30 house and counting,50 people, benches,a frozen lake ,numerous vehicles, and sleds.it uses 2 1/2 sheets of plywood.
I feel ya'. Since this pic was taken there is now a village underneath. I am sure it is not as complex as yours, but it takes me awhile to untangle all the cords and wires for the interior lighting.

Yeah, the happy wife part; sometimes I don't do to good in that department and usually I am clueless. I am sure you know that one!

Do what I did several years ago...I bought my own tree to hold all my Hallmark cars, trains, airplanes and tractors!
It is getting to that point. I did buy a real lame small tree from Walmart for some of the battery operated ornaments. It is too flimsy for my die cast train ornaments.

Good for you! What you are doing is way more important than some stupid tree. That is one of the reasons that I mentioned 1st world problem. We do do a similar thing over here. I work 10 hour days 6 days a week and a few hours on Sundays. I am not good for any extra curricular activities. However, my wife is retired and her daughter does not work but has some money. They both volunteer several hours each day getting food to the needy. Obviously, it is more stressful this year. Just because Christmas is now over, does not mean that there are no more hungry people.
