Epson just gave me a firmware update for my Epson 4720 printer and now it won't recognize the third-party ink cartridges. If you are using third-party carts in an Epson printer you may have the same problem.

Needs a chip for third party cartridges.
See if you can undo the update?

In the past when I used Epson, I found on line Eposon cartridges with a chip. No longer into epson.

Precision Colors or Owl Ink provides refillable cartridges with quality ink. In my opinion, the quality of color is equal to Epson's ink and I've used both companies and had no problems with them or my printer. The six refillable cartridges, bottles of ink, and needles cost about $100; yet, after five refills one can see how much is saved over purchasing one set of Epson ink.

I use LD ink. My Canon and Brother printers recognise them as OEM units

My solution was an Epson ET-3750 Eco Tank printer. Ink is reasonable in price and it lasts a long time.

I buy directly from Epson with fast free shipping and prices as good as Amazon.
Even their Eco Tank printers require very specific ink.
Yes, even their own inks are specific to specific model Epson printers.

PixelBill, the same thing happened to me last year. I had to throw a bunch third party ink away. Really upset me. Utube has a way to over rule the computer. I didn't have much luck with it. I feel your pain. Olddog

In the future, remember -" If it's not broken, don't fix it." I don't race to change firmware, unless I feel it will have a bearing on what I'm currently utilizing, and will enhance it.

The ink of both Precision Colors and Owl Ink is printer specific.

I agree, InkOwl inks are great, the only place I can see a difference is in my wallet! Here's a link to a *very* knowledgable guy who knows his inks!

The only Epsom printer I ever had used ink like it was going out of style so I have never bought another one. I love the Epsom V600 scanner, however.

I have two; an R3000 and a P800...love them both. I have the R3000 converted fully to after market inks (through Ink Owl) and haven't yet had to make decisions like that for the P800. Epson has that model locked for after market, at least in the USA (Europe gets a pass here, go figger...) but there are alternatives and I plan to use them! ;0) I know the Canons are good, too...
