Has anyone noticed much of a difference between AI and Luminar 4? I haven't played around with AI too much yet, but I'm not getting the 'AI' hype.

Yes, a similar product as was to be expected. A few of new features come to mind, such as: the templates feature is useful, especially with gradient control provided; the program is significantly faster w/o the DAM, which is the direction Luminar is going; "layers" is missing, but available in L4 if you have it; AI provides a virtually minimal learning curve unless the user is under 3 years old, adding "atmosphere, composition and advanced sky replacement/mods, skin, iris, body, face, bokeh, structure, colour harmony, contrast, and mood, which are all offered up with manual override are to name a few of the most obvious improvements and new features that LAI brings, and did I mention...LAI is quick!

I don't think it is perfect, but it sure is a time saver, (at times, post down to a minute or less), fun to use and all for under $100...not a bad deal, notwithstanding the usual "Adobe" (which I have) opposition. Like any software, if you don't like it...don't buy it.

Merry Christmas!

All pp programs have some “AI.”

Thanks, but I already pre-paid a few months ago--got the great deal and saved about 10 cents!

Thanks for the info, that's the kind of response I was looking for. Merry Christmas to you, too.

All of the new versions including PS are now using some AI under the covers. Sky replacement in PS is just one example. It will take some time for the AI code to get sorted out and enhanced. I have been using AI development for about 10 years now. Most newer mirrorless cameras have quite a bit of AI technology in the firmware now. I have Luminar 4 and AI. They are totally different software. AI does a lot of things well and others need serious tuning of the code. It still allows you to make your own edits even in combination with AI and you can save those as your own templates.
Ps and LR are not only overkill and overly difficult to learn for the causal photographer. I have recently retired and will no longer do photo shoots, but software like On 1, Capture One and Luminar work sufficiently well for my own work without the workflow time needed for LR and PS. Adobe will make over 13 billion this year. They were struggling before their subscription model. I no longer want to be a slave to them

A big complaint on my part is that the so-called manual and tutorials do not have simplistic starts. I am saying, first, give me a chart with arrows and explanations of what controls we will find and what controls we will find within those controls.
Example of something we know, the headlight switch on our cars:
1 This is the head lite switch on your new car, it has 3 positions, off, parking, headlights. Oh! OK, now I understand.
2 You can switch between Hi & Lo beam by pulling toward you. Oh, OK.
3 Pulldown toward your feet and the left turn signal is activated, upward for the right, in between for none. Oh, OK.
With directions like this even a 10 y-old, sitting on a pillow can now drive at night.
With directions like this, those among us who did not do the Beta Luminar Ai can learn.

The line 3 party tutorials show most of the screen as an overcomplicated photo and over to the right edge is the selectable controls shown small, white letters on the black background [is it selectable?]. As with the magician on the NYC street all is presented very fast and I can not follow the pea and nutshell movement.

"Here is a photo. Analyzing this is what we need to change. Here is what controls we will use and why." OH, OK, now I understand. Topaz hour-long Webinars were a great sleep aid... the presenters wandered ... NO ANALYSIS. Too often the photos were complicated and the changes not evident on our screens.. Keep It Simple, KIS, is the best approach I have lectured on tech subjects and the intro should be a catch up for newbies and a refresher for veterans.

When tuning my photos for the Camera Club, I would put them on the cabinet above the coffee pot and mark things to change or correct for a week, make changes and print, then refine. Ai may be too automatic. A change in our world by introducing Ai and new approaches is generally not intuitive and requires slow spoon-feeding. Ai can be great and I fell in love with it using Google's free Deep Dreams.

I find for the most part 4 is the better product. AI doesn't have "adjustable gradient". I also don't like how they have done the "looks". Wish I could get my money back.

AI does have "adjustable gradient" and getting a refund (any time within the first thirty days) is done at https://skylum.com/support.

Usually I hate videos but this one... it's great. I preordered but haven't yet downloaded. After seeing the video I will not wait longer to download and get started. I love that it looks like everything I will want to use is always going to be in the same space. Why am I so enthused when most everyone else seems not? It might be because the most recent photo editor I have is 1998 Photo Deluxe. So I don't have any preconceived ideas about what look and feel an advanced photo editor should have. Nor have I acquired a pre-existing methodology from having used another advanced editor.

I have downloaded and right out of the box the eye AI is terrible. I sent an email. The results are very unnatural. The landscape and face AI work. Since this is a complete new code base there are going to be issues that need to be addressed which these things can always be difficult to debug. With so many cameras and lenses supported it may be a bad hardware profile which can be difficult to track down.

Hurry, don’t be late for your 30 day refund...for me, LAI is a gift of time & pleasure.

Merry Christmas!
