On both of the machines, I use " desktop and laptop" using lightroom has become painfully slow opening and also "not responding" messages moving around LR. No problems prior to update.
Thanks

I have an "ancient" 10 yr old desktop - iWin7 Pro, Intel i7-2600K with 4 cores and overclocked to 5 ghz, Nvidia Quadro 600 with 1 gb vram, 32 gb system ram, and a 1 Tb SATA SSD - and compared to my blazingly fast new-this-past-summer laptop with Win10 Pro, Intel i7-10875H 8 cores, Nvidia RTX2060 with 6 gb vram, 32 gb system ram and (2) 2 TB NVMe PCIe m.2 drives - the old machine is no slouch.

Both are snappy - with the new machine having an edge over the old one on startup and boot time, and program launching - but the faster cpu on the older machine makes for fast execution on some cpu intensive tasks like content aware, applying blur, merging panos, focus stacks and HDR, etc - making it competitive with the new laptop. It is easy to get misled with the newer faster m.2 drives into thinking the new machines are really fast - when in fact this is only true for some operations - things like rendering previews in LR are still very cpu dependent.

I can't say that even on my old machine, the current version of LR runs any slower than previous versions. One thing to look at is whether or not you are using graphics acceleration - whatever it is currently set to change it and reboot the computer and see if it gets any better.

What is 128 bts of memory?

Typo: should have been 128GBs of memory

Also, the desktop has 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i9

Yes, I recently have had difficulty starting LR with the annoying "not responding". I've tried the normal remedies, restart, reboot, etc. Eventually it starts up and works fine but it is sure annoying. There have been no issues in PS.

Do you think an uninstall and reinstall would help?

I use a Mac. Latest IOS. After the last update have been unable to use LR. As soon as start using sliders (any of them) program freezes, crashes. Shut down. Reboot. Same thing. Spent seven hours two days ago trying to correct. Four hours with a technician using remote control of my computer. When he manually changed permissions in the info box every thing started working. The next morning I downloaded new update Big Sur. Same problem started over. Not going through all that again. Have purchased Affinity Photo. Forgot to mention LR and Creative cloud were uninstalled and reinstalled. LR has always been very, very slow since initial purchase one year ago.
It’s always good to vent. My first post. Thoroughly enjoying this site. Have downloaded and saved a ton of info.

likely meant 128GB RAM. That is a lot. I get by fine with 32GB.

or 128 bits would be only 16 bytes. That would not even run DOS. Or even the worlds first computer.

I have noted that LR is slow to start sometimes. In fact it can hang on startup. The solution is a reboot. After that LR operates normally. Have not noted any slowdown in normal operations. Once I reboot, I can use LR all day without a problem. But when I do other things with my computer I eventually have the LR startup problem again.

My computer is over 5 years old now and has had some issues with LR for around a year or so. In fact it had some issues on random programs, and would occasionally hang. When I force a restart, a dialog comes up that tells me there's an error accessing a memory location. It seems to be the same memory location every time except that if I make a change in some program configuration the location changes. I have not identified which program changes do that because I don't change programs frequently.

The first thing I did was to clean the computer. I vacuumed the vents to clear the dust and blew out the heat exchanger on the CPU. Dismounted all the RAM and re-mounted it after cleaning the contacts. While that improved the random hang issue, the LR didn't change much. Right now it's something I can deal with by rebooting, but I think that for me, the long term solution would be a new computer.
I have noted that LR is slow to start sometimes. I... (show quote)

In older computer with older applications especially unsupported or pooirly written ones, often screw up memory. They grab a chunk of memory to do some work and even after you close the application the memory is still considered in use. Over time the problem gets worse and less memory is available for use. With LR being a large memory user it can't get all the memory it wants at one time so it must do the work in chunks with slows things down big time(paging).

The obvious solution is to reboot which cleans up this issue.

In addition check with your task manager to see what application(s) come up a boot time to eat pieces of you memory yet doing nothing. If it's an app that you use every day that is fine. If it's seldom used than make sure it does not come up at boot time. At worst those seldom used apps will just take a bit longer to come up when you do need it. Many apps will at install time have it started up at boot time without you knowing it. Makes you think the App is fast.

My experience as well... it is slow indeed!

Merry Christmas!

Yeah. On my Windows 10 machine almost all functions are slower; it doesn't any longer give me the dialog box offering what mode to use when exporting (Ctl-E) to Photoshop. Freezes for no reason requiring a system reset. I think maybe Adobe hired some out of work Microsoft engineers to write their code.

I have no problem with win10. Only the apparent aging memory issue that impacts LR loading. Reboot fixes it.

It took me 13 minutes and 42 seconds to move 247 files with the same keyword into one folder. I am running a 17 month old Dell 27-7777 aio with the i7, 32gb of ram, and a 1 Tb and a 2tb SSD drives. The only app I had running was Lightroom Classic.
It was like the old days using a 80286 AT system, copying from hard drive to a floppy or a Zip drive.

No one has 128bts or 128MB of memory anymore.
